Lacking content in GTA IV [Spoilers]

It feels like GTA 3 did once you completed it.

The next one will, I'm sure, will have more stuff in it like VC and SA did.

Yeah like with GTA3 you get the feeling GTA4 was just all about getting the new engine together, now that they have it in place they can start to really focus on the gameplay.

I think the problem is that people were expecting a rags to riches type story of previous GTAs, some time before release it was described as rags to slightly better rags, and that's what it is.

Not really. Its going from rags to having near half a million dollars. I wouldn't call that slightly better rags.

They could've adjusted the money so you felt your money had worth when it came to buying what little things you could.

Some things maybe, but I think not having some of the side stuff in 4 is slightly damaging the GTA 'brand' in many peoples' eyes.

Obviously R* aren't going to give us everything in one go, but GTA4 does feel somewhat lacking, even if I can't put my finger on exactly what that is.

Spot on. There is actually little point in making any money even at the end of the game you don't feel as though it's been hard earnt.

With SA and previous GTA's we could splash it on luxurious safe houses etc. Nothing like that this time such a let down.

1.2 Million here with sweet FA to do with it. At least in SA I could buy an Airport!

But the "luxurious" safe houses were always identical to the old ones, simply a save point. At least in this one you get something better in the new ones like laptops (although I wish you could use the pool table) The vast majority of the stuff they've got rid of was dead weight. The only stuff I miss is the bikes, jetpack, hovercraft and parachutes. The planes wouldn't have worked in this game, its too small. I've just finished doing the vigilantes, most wanted and unique jumps and they were far far more fun than previous GTAs, ther police computer is a really cool addition.

The money is irrelevant if the story doesn't match, a slight oversight on the amounts paid from missions by Rockstar, but it doesn't make the point any less valid.

This post might be a little controversial but the thing that disappoints me most (and its not a lot because I love the game) Is how much i miss certain stuff from Saints Row. I prefer the combat from SR, having an mp3 player, car customization (why this wasn't included at all is beyond me), a greater number of shops (theres only 3 clothing stores in the game, pitiful), unique cars as rewards .

Of course it's just a save point, but it felt as if you had earnt it and enhanced the story it self IMHO. I think Rockstar have made a bit of an oversight here.

It was nice to earn the money and then spend it on a safehouse with a helipad and pool

Let's face it you may aswell not earn money in GTA IV. It's utterly pointless.

I haven't actually got that much, I've finished the story and been doing side missions and I have about 400,000. I've spent quite a bit on rockets because they're so much fun  I wish there was a place you could buy exotic cars from (annoys me that I can steal cars from the showrooms but not walk in and buy them)

I agree. What would have been nice is to even have exclusive cars to purchase. Feels like a wasted oppourtunity to me. I hope the DLC provides us with more to mess about with when you do complete the story.

I was amazed how many cool locations I discovered by doing the most wanted side missions. Theres an amazing set of gantries above the old bridge in Alderney that give a breathtaking view of the city. I had to jump off of course :D

I just wish your safe houses had their own garage because those parking spaces are useless, since my cars are constantly disappearing.

I've actually caught a NPC driving off with my car and the rest have just vanished without trace...

I find it quite the opposite, never had anything disappear yet (40 hours of gameplay), had lots of problems with the old garages though (although to be fair a lot of the time I was trying to jam about 30 bikes in there :D) Only annoyance associated with them that I've noticed is if you take a taxi to your algonquin safehouse (not Playboy X's penthouse, the other one) then the taxi will ram your parked cars when you trip skip.

Heh I noticed that, bloomin' annoying! I try to remember to set a waypoint just before that safehouse now!

I can't help but feel that I wouldn't bother doing the unique jumps, cars for stevie etc, if it wasn't for the achievements...not the points, don't care about them.
