Switzerland: A parachute design set down by Leonardo Da Vinci in 1485 has been constructed out of modern materials and successfully tested by parachutist Olivier Vietti-Teppa.

The 500-year-old design, which consists of four equilateral triangles sewn into a pyramid with a square net across the bottom, works but cannot be steered at all.

After testing the design with a model, Vietti-Teppa made a 650m jump using da Vinci's design. "I came down in the middle of Payerne military airport in Switzerland. A perfect jump," he said.

Holy old news, batman!

Actually, it's probably only geeks like me that consider parachute-related news to ever get old.

Anyway, some South-African chap jumped the original design with the wooden beams and everything. Didn't land it though.

I did do a search.

He didn't land it? What happened?

it's been tried quite a few times the original plans always fail.

This just looks like an oddly shaped modern one, no bars or anything.

It wasn't made of wood, it was made of fabric but had wooden supporting struts to ensure it kept it's strength.
I'll try to find the link.
