Bought it from OcUK on the 29/4/08.

The temperatures are not reading correctly and the core temps greatly differ (usually around 12 degrees between them).
The obvious problem with this is that I'm running a temperature based fan system and it's entirely possible the readings are so incorrect that my fans are kicking in way too late and this is damaging the CPU.

I've read around that due to a manufacturing problem with the diodes, I may be able to return it. Is this true?

What are your temperature readings, belongs your not running at 80c you will not be damaging the cpu, also the cpu will start throttling.

You might need to send Overclockers a web note regards the RMA.

a difference in core temperatures is often caused by a chip not being 100% flat, so it doesn't make an even contact with your heatsink. you can't RMA your card if that is the case.

Real Temp is showing a temperature of #1 36, #2 25 at idle. #1 47, #2 33 at load.

However I don't know if these are the real temperatures or not (I don't have a probe).

I've placed the heat sink without locking it on to the mb and it doesn't seem to rock on the top of the cpu at all, suggesting the chip is flat enough...

I have an E8400 and none af the apps ive tried can read the Core temps. There is probly some truth in what you've read. So long as it doesnt set on fire or explode i'm not that bothered.

Hardware monitor = 37 + 37
Core Temp = 37 + 37
Real Temp = 27 + 27
Pc Probe = 23 + 23 as does the bios.

None of these temps change by 1 degree wether i'm playing games for hours or if i OC to 4Ghz .

If the temps can't be read then i'd class it as faulty so should be allowed a return (imo).

My #2 core temperature occasionally decides to stick at the low temp, so I'll have my #1 core hitting 46 and #2 will still be at 25.

How on earth did this get through quality control?

One of my diodes is completely stuck and only moves under full load. I seriously doubt you can RMA a chip due to these reasons. Especially considering so many were affected.
