... got a black N82 yesterday as an upgrade on my Orange account. Had some fun working out how to do things as I haven't had a Nokia phone for a while and I'm more used to the way SE do things at the moment.

I think I've worked out most things but I have a query on wallpaper. If I put an image, of the resolution of the screen, onto the phone then it is squashed and doesn't cover the full screen. Reading around a bit this morning I think that to get wallpaper to cover the full screen i would need to create a whole new theme using something like Carbide.ui (assuming the Nokia site ever lets me download it ). Is this correct?

Thats what i need to do with my Nokia 6120 Classic which runs on the same software as the N82. Tad annoying indeed.

yeah, only themes will allow fullscreen wallpapers

i had a program called themediy or something which ran on the phone and i could create any wallpaper into a theme there and then - it did mean i had to use one of their standard theme layouts for the other parts though

Managed to convince the Nokia server to let me download the Carbide.ui program  ... created a new "theme" which just sets the backgrounds and installed it on the phone ....

Why Nokia have to make things so complicated I don't know ...

edit: and then made another version of it as Nokia's definition of inactive and active backgrounds are the opposite to what i'd thought they would be!

I've found for such a powerful series of phones, some of the basics I liked so much from SE phones are completely missing. My biggest 'miss' is the way messaging works. With the SE phone I can press down to see a list of words T9 is offering, and it also predicts what would be used next if I use it frequently. This makes things like 'Love you x x x' literally a case of pressing L and next till it's finished. Saves loads of time.
