So, basically by this I mean the PC parts that when you got them really made you happy you went with them ?

Mine off hand were probably:

Voodoo 2 - I loved this card. Seeing Quake in Glide really impressed me, and the first time I shown a friend Half Life in open GL he was begging me to trade his N64 for the card :D (which I didn't do)

Barton @3200 speeds - I loved this CPU, very nice indeed.
9800 Pro - Another excellent card. Though I swapped to an X800XT later on, I wasn't as blown away in terms of performance jumpas the 9800 Pro that I had.

A64 Venice @ 2.7GHZ an excellent CPU.

Q6600 - I love this current CPU, it seems almost impossible to slow it down with anything less than the most hard core of tasks. I did love my E4300 from the Venice, but this upgrade feels just the same as the E4300 for the tasks I use.

Things I do regret buying:

An EPOX Athlon 64 motherboard - It caused me no end of grief really :(

Geforce 5700 card... I got it cheap, but I almost wish it had been free :/ (swapped to the 9800 Pro)

All of my current setup pretty much, I didn't expect it to be much quicker than my 939 rig but the difference is definitely noticable :D

My Barton cored AMD 2500xp, which was probably a 3200 in drag.

My ATI x800pro, which after a (scary) bios mod has spent the last four years as a x800XT.

Indeed most of my current rig would probably be considered a canny purchase. Mobo, C: drive, 2xDVD drives, ram and fans are all 3.5 years + and still running smooth.

XP-M 2500+ Barton, not because of its quality, not because of its coolness, not because of its reliability, not because of its overclockability...

...but because I bought it used 4 years ago and it was still going for THE SAME PRICE I BOUGHT IT FOR on the 'bay until last year! :D

still loving my E6600 and 8800GTX after 18 months. In fact if I do anything stupid in near future, it would be getting another GTX for SLI (which I know is not worth it). Also considering changing RAM to PC6400C4 - not impressed by the PC8500.

PS I do remember those ATI 9800Pro , they still hold a close place to my heart

My current is the first one that i actually chose everything myself, and overclocked it myself. I am very happy with it performance wise. The CPU is amazing, runs at 50% overclock and is rock steady at decent volts and temps. The mobo ended up being pretty good, handling 4 sticks of RAM at 450FSB.

The case is on the noisy side, and would probably didnt buy it if i had the chance again.

But really the best is the Dell 24 inch monitor, 2407 i think is the exact model, apparently one of the better revisions too, last one before the HC models came out.

My Geforce 6800LE. It was about £150 if I recall and all 16 pipes unlocked, giving me a 6800GT pretty much. Bargaintastic.

I think my Logitech MX510 is pretty damn good too, easily the best mouse I've ever used.

My LG 1710B, Logitech G7 and Microsoft Multimedia keyboard have all given me sterling service. For my next build I'll be replacing the screen and keyboard I think but that isn't just because I want a bigger screen and a newer keyboard, they've lasted astonishly well and still perform as well as they did when I bought them.

For me the AMD ATHLON 350 I bought which was like a bar of LED.

But really the first PC I ever built from my OWN money when I was 16 back in 2001

abitnf7, athlon xp2500 mobile
the GB of geil ram has held up but id say it was the MB and CPU that were the great parts along with the thermalright heatsink

waiting for a c2d or quad setup that gains areputation for being great will then get it

Hercules Game theater XP sound card - I still use it, i've yet to find anything to replace it with that has a breakout box and isnt made by Creative.
