I spent a couple of days at Arisaig last week and it was an ideal chance to try out my shiny new D300.

A couple of shots from the sunset on the second night...

Nice, as saids, #2 need more sky to keen in the 1/3rds rules otherwise it is slightly off putting (it feels like the camera is tipping downwards

Hmph! Stupid internet content blocker at work means I can't see the pics. I spent a week last Autumn in Arisaig though. Lovely area. Did you get out ot the white sands of Morar?

Absolutely spectacular :) I think #2 could do with a tiny bit more sky though.

Thanks for the comment. The sky was a bit boring above the sun so I thought it would be more interesting to include some rock detail.

Rules are meant to be broken;) As previous reply, the sky wasn't really up to much just plain, so I decided to include more of the rocks.

I've got to agree MK, it's a wonderful area. We did go to the sands of Morar and they were pretty good. Pictures might follow:)

Rules are there to be a guidance, not to be broken. Unless you have a valid reason I would follow the rules with such a conventional shot.

In my opinion, the composure does not work well. Even if the sky is boring I would rather have it there. The reason the first shot works well is everything is in proportion - and the sjky and water there are mostly uniform.

Thanks for the critique. I suppose you can't please all of the people all of the time:)

Now I can see them! Lovely. Great light in number 1, it looks so tranquil. :)

This was about 20 minutes after sunset. The light lasted for about 10-15 minutes and was then gone. We were heading back from the first location after the sunset and rounded the corner and saw this scene. We had to stop and get some shots.
