I've recently got hold of a G25 and have played a good few hours on GT5P with it, and also LFS on the PC...

Now, my previous wheel for the past while has been a Driving Force Pro, which i hold in high esteem, so moving up to the G25 i had very high hopes...

My opinion is this: the wheel is excellent, it really is and there's no denying that. Having said that i think everyone who posts about their G25 and how it compares to other wheels is exaggerating on a few points:

• the force feedback, yes it is better, but the real life difference is only marginal.

• the build quality, same again, it is better as expected, but the DFP is really well built as well albeit with cheaper materials.

the G25 really comes into its own obviously if you want to use the H-gate transmission and the clutch (mainly cuz the other wheels just dont have the bits to do this) and yes its good, but you'll get better lap times with the sequential. For me the traditional manual is a bit of a novelty and not summat i'll stick with in the long term i feel...

the point of me writing this mini-comparison is for people who are making the decision whether or not to spend the extra wad of cash on the G25 over the likes of the DFP. The conclusion is if you are dead set on using the h-gate and clutch, then its the way to go, but if you are looking for a good solid wheel to increase the realism and enjoyment of racing games (over a standard pad), then in my opinion the FF and build quality gaps are just not big enough to justify the big price difference...

a couple more things to bear in mind...

• the G25 is not quite as simple to set up.

• the G25 navigation is not as intuitive, you know where you stand with the playstation layout of the DFP but with the G25 (in GT5 at least), you're not quite sure where all the mappings are and it is not properly supported in the game to set it up how you want.

with all that said, i'm not trying to put people off, the G25 is the dogs danglies and i wont be getting rid of mine now i have it, i'm just giving an honest opinion and trying to save the casual gamer a few pennies...

if i had to rate the different control systems out of 10 it would be like this:

kb/mouse: 3
controller: 5
DFP: 8
G25: 9

so to go from a controller from a wheel imo is definitely worth it, but wether to go for a G25 or not is a different matter ;)

Good post im looking for a new wheel at the moment, which would you recommend for the PC ? if not the g25 < do not really need the h-gate and clutch.

many thx jay

DFP is probably the best wheel for PC if you don't want clutch and h-gate
+1 absolutely

i'll be sticking my DFP in the MM soon so keep an eye out :)

edit: saying that it is useful keeping the dfp for GT5P since you can do all the on-the-fly adjustments with it... in theory you would be able to with the G25 but since its not supported you can't remap the keys... i hope they properly support it in the full release and enable an always-on option for the clutch while they're at it...

I take it wee are talking the Logitech Driving Force Pro == DFP ? do not want to buy the wrong one :D
All i see is it's talking about consoles and not the PC in the adds.

mm just traced it up and the wheel does not support some PC titles shame need it to work on grand prix 4 and gtr2.

yeah it is the Driving Force Pro, although i am surprised to hear it doesn't support the games you mentioned...

the DFP was designed for the PS which is evident in the buttons etc but i thought it worked equally well on PC (it certainly works with LFS and R-Factor)

anyway, if you want a similar wheel which was originally intended for the PC then maybe try to get hold of a MOMO racing wheel? i also used to have one of these and it was also very good... doesn't have the 900° rotation but other than that theres not much difference...

not sure on how good the MOMO is on PS3 though...

dfp works perfect on gtr2 its even got its own control set built into the game
cant see why it would not work with gp4 i will try that out later

edit: quick scan of gp4 forums suggest it works fine as expected

The driving force pro was originally unsupported on the PC and hence you have a lot of old information floating around saying it doesn't work with certain games. Over a year ago however, logitech released full official drivers for it and as far as i know it now works on any game that supports a wheel on the PC.

Highjack, but whats the best 360 wheel?

The only 360 wheel, the official Microsoft one. Don't panic though it is actually a fantastic wheel, it just isn't quite up to the value for money the DFP offers, mainly because DFP is supported on both the PS3 and the PC whereas iirc the 360 wheel is only for the 360.

I think the 360 wheel will work on pc with the crossfire reciever for windows as well.

The one thing you did not mention was the pedal set.
The pedals are stainless steel and are built much better than any other i have seen.
Also the wheel is stainless steel not plastic.
You can see why the g25 is expensive its a quality well made product.
To me if you can afford it the g25 is worth every penny.

.

Sorry what i was meaning was i Hope it would work on said games which i see it does.

I read some place some games are not supported tho.
