I want a Road Legal Quad - Good or Bad?

Don't buy a Chinese quad (or bike), the quality of these things is absolutely dire. The castings are porous and very brittle and tolerances of machined parts are all over the place. It will almost certainly break under normal use, and quite possibly in a way that could cause an accident (a friends quad had the rear diff casing fail, causing the loss of one rear axle and wheel). It will be worth almost nothing after you have bought it either.

If possible a second hand Japanese quad will be a far better buy. However, I think anyone that drives these things on the road must be mad. You get all the disadvantages of a bike (no weather protection, vulnerability to other vehicles etc.) and none of the advantages ( filtering, parking etc. ).

Several mates have Chinese bikes for what is it £600 brand new. there not the best but they have never broken. The reviews seem to suggest the same. Although there not the best build quality there reasonably reliable. Just poor handling/speed. But what do you expect for something so cheap. Fine for commuting though. When 50mph is the top you will do.

If you don't want to do a bike license I would certainly consider a quad. But is it really just for fun? if so I wouldn't bother. you would be a fool to ride it without proper biking clothes. And that kind of spoils *** fun. When you don't have bike performance.
But as a cheap commuting tool, then if you don't have a bike license then it's a good option.

I had a cheap Chinese import bike - Demon X and i crashed it on concrete and it broke. The best bit about it was it cost £30 for all the new parts -> 7 in total and took no time to fit.

It was £300 delivered for the bike and i sold on eBay 1 year later for £250 and it was filthy.

So i agree with the cheap/brittle side but easy to repair and maintain etc.

I dont plan on crashing this Quad or doing stunts off road.

Its just to play about on and get to nice locations with my mates etc without the cost of petrol/MPG of my current car.

Sounds like a bit of a waste then. By the time you fork out, buying it, tax, mot, insurance it negates any savings of mpg for your car. But i suppose if a few of you had them it could be fun, but rather expensive.
where did you buy it from?

Well tax, mot and plates all come free. With 1 weeks insurance and i can pay monthly for £21.25 a month insurance.

Road going quad needs to be a big and heavy (with bigger engine) or it'll be a top heavy deathtrap. Mate of mine has one and he tested a pile of them and went for a bigger model as the smaller ones felt a bit "tippy".

You seem nice enough, so i'd rather you got something that won't fall over on you. :)

Slow, uncomfortable, loud, can't filter, you'll get wet when it rains, you'll look like a berk, they don't handle, a chinese one like that will be horrendous quality...

Just don't. Quads are all the bad points of a car and all the bad points of a bike rolled into one horrible horrible mess with no redeeming features whatsoever.

If you insist on getting a quad, please, for the love of all that is holy, look for something second hand that isn't made in China.
