Hey all

Ive just started o/cing my new E2200 - I was going up by .5ghz each time and got to 2.55ghz which was fine! Then all of a sudden I go to 2.60ghz, load windows up fine and suddenly all this screeching comes from my speakers :S!
I can use the computer fine, which is the odd thing about it.
I have an X-fi installed along with the gigaworks 7.1 speakers btw.

Also my system specs are:

E2200
Gigabyte GA-P35 Mobo
2gb of DDR2 memory (OCZ)

Im new to this sort of thing so please go easy on me :p

Thanks guys

Usually means the PCI/PCI-e bus is being increased too much - make sure you are locking them to defaults before increase the FSB.

I also got it on my setup (gigabyte P35 DS3R, creative x-fi) when the NorthBridge wasn't 100% stable - giving it some extra cooling and 0.1 extra volts solved that.

Cheers for your reply :)! and also to the other guy.

I'm a bit of a noob at this sort of thing - so how do i set the pci/pci-e bus to default exactly?

It's one of the first options in the MIT menu of the BIOS. Set it to 101mhz.

Tho it should be locked anyway, even at Auto.

Thank you so much :)! thats worked brilliantly up to 3ghz! :)

I tried just over 3 and the screech came back - do i need to up it a bit more to get say 3.2 out of my cpu? if so, what should i up it to?

Cheers!

mmm, very very mixed results!

Sometimes its fine, another the screech will activate!

Weird problem this one as the computer itself is absolutely fine in windows - good temperatures and performance, just this screeching... lol.

Any ideas?

Using Vista by any chance? If so you should download the latest X-Fi drivers it fixes the problem a little, if your using Vista SP1 make sure to remove any sign of the old drivers first.
