I'm loathed to start yet another 'which LCD thread?' but i'm needing help and AV Forums looks a bit scary and filled with moaning people if you so much as think of asking for something so I'm gonna bore you all instead. You lucky people.

I'm after a 32" LCD, will be used with my Virgin cable box(standard, no HDMI), Xbox 360 (again no HDMI, console too old) and regular DVD player.

No intention of getting Blue Ray yet, maybe in a couple of years but we'll see.

Now I'm confused about the Xbox connectors, not sure whether I need VGA or component for the best picture since I can't get HDMI and then have the worry about standard cable TV looking like carp.

I hear LG and Panasonic do nice LCD's that will show standard def. very well but the Pana's are pretty pricey. I have a budget of around £500, if I can get something for closer to £400 that's great but would be willing to spend a little more if it is worthwhile.

Always heard good things about the Samsung TV's (R87 I think) that we're used on the Xbox demo pods (26" tho) and these did look nice but heard the sound was pretty terrible unless you have surround (which I don't), anyone seen the new range in action or have alternatives I should go for?

Be confused on this 1080 upscaling stuff, nothing I have will need this it seems and I'd be looking a replacing the telly in prob. 2 years so not too fussed on this unless you think otherwise?

Cheers in advance guys.

(ps. I know, should be 'too').

No point in 1080p for a 32" LCD.

Panasonics can be had for your budget, most LCD TV's have have both component & PC inputs (or you can get VGA to component leads)

I'd go for Panasonic, I used to sell their tellies years ago & I can vouch for their quality.

Thanks Grimley, decided to go for the Sony Bravia KDL-32P3020 in the end - was £410 delivered which seems like a good deal. Read a lot of user reviews and was given a best buy in What Hi-Fi so fingers crossed it'll live up to expectations.

Nice choice according to a few reviews ive seen.
Let us know how you get on with it as im thinking of getting this for mums 60th birthday present mainly interested in the freeview picture quality.

I've had the Sony Bravia KDL-32P3020 since December and I have been impressed with it.
I haven't used any LCD's before it other than a cheapo one from Sainsburys a few years ago.
The black level is good on it, the colours are vibrant . Freeview is good enough but it really impressed me when I hooked up my PS3 for gaming and movies.
