Am I the only person who can't play GTA online?

I have GTA and used the 1 month trial that came with it on my old account that I used on gold before for 12 months. Now I can't ever connect to any, and I mean any online games myself. I have to go by invite to either a party or a room, then most of the time it works. Just bringing up the phone and going to MP doesn't work and it disconnects every time, I can't even start my own party. I have tried countless times and it has only ever connected once the normal way, every other time I played online was through an invite, I can't go to a friend and press join session in progress on their profile. The only thing I can think it would be is the 1 month trial but why would they bundle a one month trial that won't let me play properly. I also can't connect to Live in the dashboard anymore and have to start a game up for it to connect. Perhaps my whole Xbox Live is buggered seeing as I can do very little and haven't tested other games (will do that now). Just tried the GRID demo online and it worked staright away perfect joined a room, no lag etc. Now after playing GRID and it connecting in the dashbaord, I play GTA and I join a room with no one in it, this just gets more annoying, wait it might be working. I think if I let it connect on the dashbaord it works. HMM, I'll get back to you guys.

Finally, I have an open NAT so that is not restricting it, and I have never had any problems in the 12 months a year ago that I had gold for. What is going on. I am tempted to buy 3 months with my mum's credit card to see if that works but I know if it doesn't I will not want Live (possibly ever again :mad:) and do not want to hassle of having to phone them up to cancel it and attempt to get a refund (it does state that with subscriptions you can get a refund before 7 days or something similar right?) :mad::mad::mad:. Its the game mate it's temperamental.

I've got the PS3 version and have the same set up as my mate. I'm in university halls at the minute and we both have the PS3 hooked up to the ethernet LAN directly. For some reason mine sometimes will just disconnect when a game starts and return me to single player and his wont and vice versa. It will keep doing this everytime I try and join a game. A restart of the console and game usually fixes it and will work until the next time I play and then it's 50/50 to whether it will work or not.

Every other game I have works absolutely fine everytime by the way.
 
I've got a similar problem, but its not restricted to gta. Its only started happening recently but if i get invited my someone on my friends list to join a game, it says error connecting to host. I get the same if i try creating a game i just get an error, i have joined random games but not many. I also get problems with live chat as well, intermittent or not connecting at all.

I've checked my net connection, live and router settings and everything is fine or should be. I'm stumped as to what the problem is, gonna get BT to check my line etc out just incase.
 
I have no luck playing GTA multiplayer either - I either get disconnected straight away or I hear other players talking then get disconnected. I did manage to get in a game once for about 20 seconds before getting disconnected again.
 
OMG, I have the EXACT same problem. Can't connect to live through the dashboard, can't play any games online, but it does say connected to live when I run a game, it updates my gamerprofile, I have been able to download updates and map packs...etc, so it is connecting in some way.

Only thing for me is that it seems to affect every game, I can't play ANY games online.

MS support told me it was my ISP, but now I'm not so sure.

It has been driving me crazy for the past few days trying to figure out what it is. MS support are useless.

I had exactly that problem i then opened these ports in my router and now it all works great:

The following ports must be available for Xbox Live to operate correctly:
• UDP 88
• UDP 3074
• TCP 3074

AFAIK most shouldn't need to do that

If the NAT status in the Network Status area of the Dashboard is "moderate" or "strict," you may have to configure port settings.

TBH when I've tried to connect to MP in GTAIV I've been unsuccessful, I just put it down to the ammount of traffic etc.

Mine is exactly like this and i discovered it was my router, try going direct into the modem through ethernet.

If that works then it is new router time
