Spotted the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive at a well known games shop for £19.99 or £24.99 with 2 x HD DVDs

I know the format has lost the media war but is this still worth getting?

;)

There's a lot of HD-DVD titles going for £4.99 or so all over the place, but only get one if you want to get some of these as there aren't exactly going to be any/many new releases.

...Considering that's little over the price of a single Blu-ray on the high street, I say go for it.

Plus you get the Xbox remote if you don't already have one.

Not only that, but I just reached 100 posts, so everybody's happy! :D

My idea is get a hd dvd drive and then when you have a blueray player in the future rip them and burn to a writable blueray disc :D

:D
Get one and keep it boxed will be worth something in a few years :P

I remember people saying that about beta-max players all those years ago!
mate of mine still has one, he's not happy its still worthless

(woo hoo my first post using my wii)

Just bought myself one this morning. With 3 dvds and the HD DVD drive for £35. Can't go wrong really. Rubbish films though (got Harry Potter 2, Rumour has it, World Trade Center) but they were the only available ones. How does the 3 Fast and Furious movies look on HD DVD guys?

Well the last fast and furious looks pretty good on skyhd so can imagine its got a very good pq on hd dvd.

Agreed ;)

Also purchased one today (whilst looking for bargain Bluerays for my PS3) with Hulk & American Werewolf In London £24.99, also picked up a copy of Troy for £4.99. The DVD I mainly wanted the unit for was Transformers, had to pay £15 quid for that. But still pretty chuffed with the deal.

Theres plenty of must have HD DVD's about, which are still awaiting release dates on Blueray. At least I have the choice now, Blueray or HD DVD :D

Anyone recommend a video card (cheap) with an hdmi port to play this on an LCD???? I've got a 7600gt at the moment and not looking to better this really.

I got a hd drive last week with Atonement and Inside Man. Couldn't resist at that price!

How are people connecting these to their PCs? Im guessing since I dont have a HDMI monitor or GFX card (actually are the G92 880GTS HDMI/HDCP compliant?) it will downscale to DVD quality or...?

Thanks

ps3ud0

USB

It's only a disk drive, the PC/360 does all the processing. You don't need HDMI if you use analogue either :)

I just bought one with Apollo 13 and Jarhead for £24.99.

Just installing some software for it now, lets see what all the HD fuss is about :p

I got one with :-

Hot Fuzz
Jarhead
Hulk
The Hitcher

for £37.98

Picture is great on the xbox (but 360 is noisy as hell!!) on my 32" Philips LCD

Tried it on my PC with PowerDVD Ultra but my processor won't cut it

I'm running a P4 3.0 GHz
2 Gb DDR2 4600 Ram
Asus EAX 1950Pro GFX card

on a HDCP capable 20" LG LCD/TV over DVI

Picture is just too choppy to watch (ran cyberlink HD advisor tool and all green lights bar the CPU!!)

Looks like an upgrade is on the cards

I bought a preowned one for £37 with King Kong. I paid a little extra because I rarely see them where I live. Today I bought 300 and Doom preowned for £9 or £4.50 each. bargain!

Are these bad boys region free for normal dvds? Like a fool i bought a U.S Lost box set and have been itching to watch it.
