try it, see how hot it gets at 3Ghz, nothing to worry about since processors can survive way more than 50*C, only thing i can think of, is the cooler seated correctly and making good contact with the IHS?

When i first got my Q6600 it idled at 30C back in March, now its a few months old and is idling at 65C according to Everest and CPUtemp?????

That cant be correct can it?

as well temperature sensors can be pretty rubbish at times, once my CPU temperature was reported as -37*C, on air cooling in the middle of summer, sure

i took off the head sink and put it back, but same thing 50 deg idle, 65 underload  , tried ocing it would get unstable over 2.6 ghz............................bugger :D

according to this FrostyTech LGA775 coolers benchmark table, the Silent Knight II is a pretty poor performer, it's near the bottom in terms of heat shifted:

to be honest, if you're running at a fairly high vcore, then your temps don't seem too insane considering.

the cooler is indeed not rated too well, afraid you would have been better of with a CNPS9700 or tuniq tower, something along those lines, what voltage you running with?

Cheers all for your help.

Probly will get a new coole and oc it, i tried from default to 1.45 and my system would reboot even at 2.8ghz, temps would peak at 72.

The as seemed to settle abit, my idle temp has gone down to 46.

So what do you recommend for my new heatsink :D

I'd recommend the Tuniq tower, Thermalright Ultra 120 with a Noctua NF-P12 fan or the Noctua NH-U12P CPU cooler.

Any of these will give you good cooling performance.

I probly get the tuniq when they get back in stock. I tried to oc one last time and its going well instead of crasing with 2 min it's holding at 20 min of prime so far, going to check on it every 30mins or so till it gets to 8 hours.

I used this guide.

Turned off the features they told me to, got new ram (2 x 2 gig, 8000 at 1066) used 1:1 50, gave my cpu 1.385 volts. So far so good, hopefully it will hold at 8 hours and not going to far over the 67 degrees temp o where it is now. Even if it does i probly still get the tuniq.

One more question, how much would the heat generated from my gfx card (8800 gts 512mb) affect the stability of my o'c? Or is that not really an issue?

what about that titan amanda TEC cooler, that looks hefty, haven't read any reviews about it, worth checking out

hmm im confused now, i did some research and i foundout that my m/b has problems with temp reading (i thought it was weird that my cpu was at 70ish deg yet my case and vents were quite cool). So i used core temp and it said that core 1 and 2 was 30ish idle and 55-60 and load (prime) and core 3-4 was 27 idle and 55-60 at load  Which do i believe?

*edit this is at 3.1 ghz o'c with 1.385 v

Coretemp/realtemp are the ones to believe in.

Was gonna say it sounded wrong, my Asus SKII keeps my AMD5600X2 downright frosty. It probably would struggle a little with a high-clocked quad, but not THAT much.

BTW, idle temps should be more or less ignored, for one thing heatpipes work better the hotter the hot end is.

My temps, after a re-build, went from 33 idle to 40. But my LOAD temps went from 65-52!!!!

I'm running the poorer Aluminimum Silent Knight and running 3.2ghz no problem... so to me, it's the case airflow, if you think it's seated correctly?

Cheers
