I think what you might be thinking of is that in China(or one of the Asian Countrys anyway) its Polite to slurp when you are eating

The question came about after the Father in Law let rip after tea last night and the Mother in law gave him an earful. He said about this being polite in some places. Something I remember being said as a kid.

No, and it used to be considered polite in this country, albeit about 400 years ago. It was a sign that the host had provided enough food of a good quality. AFAIK parts of China still have this.
