Going through leicester town centre for the first time today and a passed a truvelo. I heard a faint click but not sure if it was just a stone in my wheel arch or not, I am probably just being paranoid.

These cameras dont flash am I right in saying that? I was just going with the flow of the traffic so every other car in front of me has been caught if I was speeding (there were loads it was very busy). Was doing 35-36 on the speedo i think but it majorly over-reads ( a steady 80 on the mway shows as 73-74 on the tomtom).

AFAIK they are forward facing and do not flash, so unlike normal Gatsos, you will only know it has gone off then you recieve a letter in the post.

I'ts not uncommon for speedometers to overread more and more as speed gets faster, so 80MPH may well equate to 73MPH real, but that doesn't mean that 36MPH (speedo) won't equate to 34MPH (real).

Secondly, they "do" flash, but you won't see it with the naked eye in bright daylight, I also doubt highly that you would hear one "click", especially whilst sat in the car, with engine and background noise.

EDIT: Mr l0rd is right, the flash is purple, but its certainly not bright, and will only really be visible at all in low light situations.

To avoid the 'flash' which is given out by a rear facing Gatso camera the Truvelo system uses an infra red flash which produces no visible 'flash' to the approaching driver. These rely on 3 white-lines in the road, painted just before the camera, and are triggered by strips in the road, used to gain the vehicles speed.

If they are visible, its not intentional. They should produce and invisible flash.

I dont care what you pull up on the internet, I have actually seen them flash with my own eyes.

having done some research, im not disputing that you did. Im just saying that you 'shouldnt' be able to see the flash. If you can, then there is either something wrong or they are emitting more than just IR light.

I didnt think they flashed but was surprised when about 20 minutes ago im driving down the A62 (Oldham - Manchester) And a bright purple flash came from the Truvelo cam about 20 yards ahead.

Its not from the same camera I have seen at least 3 different ones flash.

Then they are clearly lying about the IR flash being invisible to the human eye.

Wonder if you could use the legislation that prevents forward facing Gatsos to negate a fine from one of these?

It was night and dark not the brightest of roads... now I said bright... maybe not it was noticable, the passenger said "did u see that camera flash" and I did.

Perhaps some of us have Bionic eyes? :p
