What is the Mid range (overtaking) performance like on the Focus 1.8 Zetec Petrol Mark I? In comparison to smaller engined cars such as 1.2s etc.... Quite a stupid question, but do you Zetec owners find the mid range adequate for safe and fast overtaking manouvres? Thanks

1.2 i couldnt really overtake... had to wait for a space that could take a few 44 toners then drop 2 cogs and floor till 7k, by the time id built the speed, the space would go lol :p.

^ Exactly
It all depends on what you class as a 'safe and fast' overtaking manoeuvre.
But the Zetec is not bad for 1.8, and will obviously feel far more powerful than a 1.2L.

I used to overtake in my classic 998cc Mini so clearly your doing something wrong, admitedly I was a lot younger in those days and thought I would live forever!

It's like, drop a clog and foot to floor in my focus, then admire the smell of petrol :D .

*Cries at his poor 15mpg*

As long as your in the right gear (usually 2nd or 3rd) it accelerates fine, I have no problem overtaking in mine. Its not a fast car though.

Making progress in lower powered cars just puts more emphasis on your driving skills and road knowledge; looking ahead as far as possible to find possible overtaking opportunities and then getting the car wound up ready for them by backing of from the car in front and accelerating so you have a reasonable speed advantage when you reach the opportunity.

This is far from an IAM approved tactic, but you have little choice unless you like staying behind the OAP piloted Honda Jazz/Suzuki Wagon R doing 40mpg everywhere.

ive gone from a 1.2 corsa to a 1.8 focus, i know the focus isnt technically a fast car but its sooooo much faster in comparisons. Means you can still over take quickly at higher speeds and just pull out and do it, non of the getting a run up like you sometimes need in a 1.2

and anyway, i dont have that "im gona live forever attitude" lol :p

a mk6 fiesta can't be 1600kg  i would expect them to somewhere between 1000 and 1200kg

edit I would expect a mini to be 500-700kg ?
