Sony Australia: PS3 outsold 360 by 45% in Q1

No real suprise tbh, and I think most would agree over the next 12-18 months the PS3 will be outselling the 360 pretty much worldwide, and have a larger userbase...

This really comes down to Sony's software library, not this generations but the last two, and this leads me onto where I feel MS are going wrong.

OK firstly MS need to broaden their audience, because at present their core gamers are in the 18-24 year old range, and as we can already see with the Wii there is a very large market to be gained if they could broaden their software choice. Secondly they need to expand on their franchises if they want to carry any of their success onto the next generation. I'm refering to the likes of Dead Rising, Test Drive Unlimited + many more that at present we haven't heard of any sequels in the pipeline.

On the positive side I think MS have done an excellent job of bringing in the formally PC gamers and by making the 360 usable on any monitor.

Obviously there are more negatives (reliability) and positives (the controller) but as a lot of gamers will agree it's all about the software, which the PS3 will have the stronger throughout this year & next due to the likes of MGS4, GT5, FF13, GOW3 etc.

"There's nothing in it" is what I said. What I said is that the PS3 versions of games aren't any better, but they aren't much worse, it's literally at the point where there is absolutely nothing in it.

It's you who is painting it out to be a bad console for games, I said it's not as good as Xbox360 (in that post and my most recent one), but I also stated that on many of the recent games there is nothing in it.

I'm amazed you quoted something I said that backs up what I just said and you try to say it doesn't?

Don't you have outrageous electronics taxes out there?

That is a tad expensive.. But still worth it if you ask me.. Mind you I did spend 850GBP on my first launch day DVD player back in 98, and way back in the early nineties, something just shy of a bag of sand for a flippin laserdisc player..

And lots of people in England spent equiv to $600 on a PS1 and $600 on a PS2..

Im not too sure if we do or not TBH:(

All i know is game and any hardwear is stupid price.
I dont see why we would have a tax on it because we have no Australian company to protect(like we do with Holden)

We will also be missing out on the 80gb aswell from what ive read so far:(


My PS3 will probably come from the UK when i get it and it will still more then likely be cheaper then what i can get here.
GTA will also come from the UK because we get the edited version:rolleyes:

Damn your posts are hard to read. Ever heard of grammar? It's an idea which has been around for quite some time now and makes it easier to express what you are saying using the written word.:p

Lol - I wouldn't say I'm a PS3 fanboy (although some might disagree). I think that Live is one of the best services available on any console this generation, I just don't think you should have to pay for it - just my opinion though.

I do however think that the PS3 is a FANTASTIC bit of hardware. It's incredibly well built, is pushing new technologies forward by having the Cell, BD, BT, Wifi, HDD all built in as standard. And on top of this it really is quiet.

They do let themselves down on the software front though and it's where their lack of experience shows. Whilst I find PSN quite adiquate and it does most of what I want it to do, it still laggs behind Live. Although it's catching up rapidly.

Microsoft are playing catchup with Sony when it comes to hardware. They have implimented HDMI into most models now, they are going to be implimenting BD anbd they are trying to make the console quieter and more reliable. Sony are playing catchup with MS when is comes to software, as they are trying to impliment a lot of the things which Live offers into PSN.

People thought the GTA franchise would be a system seller, and when the numbers came out they thought they were wrong. Well, they weren't wrong. GTA is a system seller... it is increasing Wii sales massively!

In April the Wii outsold the PS3 + Xbox360 combined almost by a factor of 2. It is just unbelievable how well Nintendo is running this generation.

I'm extremely happy for Nintendo. They're the only one out of the three ready to take risks on potential innovating ideas. So they fully deserve their success. Without them the game industry would be a very dull place indeed. I mainly play my 360 though because the games are more catered for my taste.

Well that's bs, gfx are better on 360 (more powerful gpu) blu ray is no bonus except for longer cutscenes lol. 360 elite has bigger hd.
Regarding sales figures in the us last month the 360 sold 188,000, the ps3 187,000 and the wii about 750,000. Probably those are the figures you want to take notice of. Biggest selling game was gta 4 on the 360.

You aren't taking into context what was said.

The comment was MS and Sony, NOT PS3 and 360. Sony are known for solid hardware of all shapes and sizes, Microsoft are known for software packages of all shapes and sizes. And that expertise has transfered over to the consoles they have produced.

And I'll just add How is Bluray not a step up in tech compared to DVD? How is Cell not a leap in tech compared to Xenon? It's harder to program for, Granted, But that does not in any way mean the processor is not superior.

The 360 has a Superior GPU. Great

The PS3 has wifi built in, A hard disk as standard, manages to export a massive amount of heat without being overly loud. It has dedicated servers, which is a hardware environment. These are things I consider fantastic hardware.

Xbox 360, Is superior in it's software side, The dashboard and the Live features. And these are very important

sony make great hardware ok ignore the numerous lawsuits filed against them for letting customers down that does not count they make fantastic hardware fantastic it is
shame the software so badly lets it down or just plain does not work as it should
still fantastic though

i see the person above is trying to change his tune but his original quote is still there he was talking about the ps3 with his comments nothing else and seems to want to backtrack a little without losing face so attacks those that see it

If you think about it though, It's all software. Friends, Messaging, Achievements, Matchmaking and all that other social stuff are all software additions, And that's where Microsoft the number 1 OS developer on the planet flourishes.

Sony have created a fantastic piece of hardware, with hard ware backbone with dedicated servers. unfortunately the software side of things isn't as sophisticated as what MS offers

At a programming level Sony's OS on the PS3 takes up a lot more memory than the 360 equivalent, While offering somewhat less of a return.

At a user level, the MS dashboard speaks for itself, I have to admit i prefer the look of the PS3 interface, It looks a lot less childish. But the Xbox 360 dashboard feature wise, Is easily better. Then again, Xbox live was launched with Xbox, so they've had 2 generations to perfect it.
