Grammar faux pas!

If I make a mistake in one of my posts, particularly one that I repeat then I'd like to be told about it so that I can rectify it for the future. However anyone can make a typo, usually it is quite obvious whether it is a simple one off error or a regular failing though.

That's the sort of sensible attitude everyone should have.

I like the fact that this forum has fairly high standards with regards to spelling and grammar. The boards are free of 'l33t txt' but the odd typo and grammatical error, I couldn't care less about.

For spelling - Get a browser that detects errors. :p Although, Safari has a tendency to give american spelling.

It's very disturbing to see so many grammatical and spelling mistakes here. The most common ones are the most annoying - ect ect; its and it's; general misuse of apostrophes; death of capitalisation at the start of sentences; and just other bad stuff.

Not enough ninja.

Is that last bold bit needed? :p

I don't normally correct people. It'd be better if people learnt by looking at other peoples' posts, it's surprising how many common mistakes there are.

The only one that really bugs me is people saying brought when it should be bought, do people actually say it like this when they're speaking?

(Checks for grammar mistakes.)

It's disruptive, anally retentive, annoying, passive-aggressive, and gets in the way of discussion. It also irritates the vast majority of forum readers.

There are better ways to show off than to correct irrelevant spelling and grammar errors. Frankly, it makes the corrector sound like a self-superior tool for the most part. Why should someone else's spelling be of any concern, if the meaning is clear?

Because for anally-retentive self-superior tools like myself it jumps out of the monitor at me and screams in my face. I can't understand how people can write something that is so obviously nonsense. Things lose their meaning without the right grammar.:o
