Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots *Snaaaaake! Edition*

I really don't mind them one bit, though I'm a PC Gamer so used to it.

I think what they should do is offer it as an option, so people who don't want to can just deal with longer load times etc.

I would mind it in say 1 year when there is a lot more games that require installs and you're forever deleting 1 install to install/reinstall another.

I'm surprised they don't give you a choice if you want to install it or not, surely the loading times without can't be that bad?

O bloody hell, these installs are starting to annoy me, i wouldn't mind if it was like 1Gb but recently they're like around the 4gb area. People who have 40gb PS3s are going to run out of space quickly as more games come out with mandortory installs!

Sony need to stop production on the 40gb PS3s and start production on 160gb PS3s. Luckily my PS3s are 250gb & 320gb.

Never heard of delete? It is a bit annoying that certain devs cant work without an install, personally its a great idea as an option, as it decreases load times less wear and tear on the BD drive etc. If you have a 40GB its easy enough to upgrade and like i said delete old game data, im not sure but i dont have like 6 or 7 games on the go at once, when they're done i remove the game file (not the save one though).

What about in the future when devs utilise the blu ray more and games get bigger? could lead to bigger installs and even less space on the HDD for other games.

I myself prefer to leave the installs on so whenever i fancy a game i can go straight into it, and not have to sit through a install.

MGS4 has 90 minute cutscenes
We know the Metal Gear Solid series is famous for its long cut-scenes, but this tops everything! Metal Gear Solid 4, the latest instalment in Hideo Kojima's seminal stealth series, has cut-scenes (note the plural) that approach the 90 minutes mark.

You can fortunately pause cut scenes to make the pop corn (sweet, not salted) :)

"Bring it" I say :D This is awesome

Exactly what I said in IRC, I don't think any other game would get away with 90minute cutscenes.

I want this damn game NOW!!

I wanted this damn game along time ago!:p

This is by far my most wanted game of the year, GTA 4 doesn't come close to exciting me as much as MGS 4 does! :o

Used to it with well over 40/60Gb hard drives I'm sure. :p

Mind you I might buy Age of Conan later, 30Gb install and 60 for everything I believe.

Well my PS3 is 160GB so I'm personally not bothered.

I mean HDD's really are as cheap as chips these days, and so easy to upgrade in the PS3. The HDD is there for the Devs to use so if it improves things then why not?

Yeah that's fine for you but do a poll and I'm sure joe public are not going to be happy about the hard drive issue.

I wouldn't call 50+ for a bigger 2.5" drive cheap either and don't forget the 40Gb PS3 actually only has about 27Gb of usable space.

i think its two less4.6gb install, its should be more scince mgs4 is the first game that used 50gb blue ray disc, i think the less will die out eventually, it probally wouldn't able to keep up

MGS using a 50Gb disc means nothing, that's probably 90% down to uncompressed audio and what have you not.

Kojima is just bigging up the PS3 and Blu-Ray, I'm sure the game could be done on a DVD+DL disc, just look at Oblivion, I doubt MGS will be anywhere near as long as that game.

How many of joe public keep their games after completition or for that matter go back to playing them again in the future - not that many I'd imagine so it shoudn't be a problem for them, they deleted after their finished.
But I agree it's not ideal for those of us who do keep their games and like the option to just be able to pop one in and play it without having to install it again. But, the hard disc is there to be used and hard disc is always going to > optical drives for data read speeds so I say make use of it. It's Sony fault though for not realising this would happen, when you can have games on discs upto 50gb they should never have released a model with a 20gb hard disc, it was just never going to work in the long term.

How annoying would it be if you accidentally skipped the cutscene half way through one of these 90 minute epics? :p

Thats what I'm saying though mate, you should get the option to install or not, then people like me can install and get improved performance, and joe public don't have to, they probably wouldn't notice the improved performance anyway.

This looks amazing to me...

Will look even better when you play it, the screenshots completely lack the grittiness and visual style shown ingame. All the screens of MGS4 shown are so sterile and almost too clean. Midtown Maelstrom (in MGO) just knocks the socks off any screens with its humidity and dusty haze. The atmospheric effects and film-like picture is just totally missing from every single screenshot shown so far, save for direct captures.

Maybe so but it has been mandatory on a few games now and some upcoming ones, wonder what the big issue is that's requiring space.
