Hey, i was jsut wondering if anyone carries a card saying their happy to donate their organs if they die, or if in their will or whatever they say their happy to donate organs.

I'm too young to carry one i think, but in the future i may contemplate on getting a card.

I don't - I'm not happy with my body being poked around with by med students after I die.

Probably wrong, but as far as I'm aware carrying a donor card allows them to use your cadaver for 'educational purposes'.

I've got a donor card - didn't know they were allowed to use it for research purposes, but I'm happy to be of help. Plus I know a few medical students and if I can offend them with a bad smell or two after I'm gone, so much the better.

Pretty sure its for medical purposes, as in life saving purposes?

Anyway, I couldn't care less what they do with me after I die..

I won't be needing it will I!

Actually I think you say what organs you want to donate. For your body to used for educational purposes requires a different route, i think but i might be wrong

I'm not on the list but am seriously considering it. I have always been unsure about it but just last night I found out that a family friend just had a kidney transplant. It is absolutely amazing how much this will change her life and all thanks to the donor who doesn't need their kidney any more.

To be honest, I'd prefer if donation was compulsory unless you opt out.

Yeah, sometimes they take the clear outside bit of your eye (completley forgotten the name), and transplant those! How much surgery has moved on.

If you could specify what you want taken i would prefer that, i wouldnt know if i wanted me eyes to be fiddled with.

Also a mate of mine is aiming to be a surgeon and he has to perform minor surgery in some practicals, i've offered to be the patient if needed lol.

Same here. You're not using it anymore, but someone else might be able to. And even if there is a change its going to be used by med studants, there is a greater chance that the organs could save several lives.
And its not like there's nothing left to bury/cremate afterwards.

I carry a card, after I'm gone I couldn't give a rats arse what sort of state they put me/bits of me into the ground, hopefully it will help someone along the way be it research or organs and that makes me feel better about myself now.

As long as you are registered you don't need to carry you card anymore.

I think every one should be on the donar list unless they opt out.

My younger sister is currently waiting for a kidney transplant and has been
for the last 3 years. She currently does lots of charity work for :

iirc when i requested my card you could pick which bits you were happy with them to use, I just selected everything once im dead I might as well try and make myself useful

So where do the students get their corpses to poke around with then?

people leave there bodies for scientific and educational purposes. Generally through there will.

Also you don't have a say in it, your next of kin can overrule you. Usually it's banning them from taking organs even if you carry a donor card. Although I assume it can also be done the other way around.

I carry a card, I don't need them and I think anyone who doesn't donate other than religious views is stupid.

^^^

If that doesn't make some people think again about their bodies being incinerated as opposed to being put to some use....

Best of luck for your sister, and your family in your time of need.

I carry an organ donor card with pride :)

I'd never consider it.
It's my body, my DNA and I want to recieve a proper Christian burial when I die.

I await quotes saying what a selfish **** I am and how I'm a bible basher but I don't care.

Moral guilt tripping is worse than anything else.
