having taken into account the comment someone made about the 300 quid pc being so much better than the 200 quid pc. i agreed and managed to convince him to save another 100 quid. making the total 300 quid. nothing over. and its got to include delivery etc.

this is what ive come up with. leaving room for a future upgrade of another ati card if more power is needed. take into account this is meant to run old games so it doesnt need to be anything amazing. although obviously he wants the best he can get for his dosh.

That's probably the most you're going to get (although as said, I think C2D might just be within that budget, not sure), does he not need a case?

Features:
* Crossfire P35 mobo
* Decent 512MB HD3850 GFX
* 2GB of decent DDR2
* Core 2 Duo

Cons:
* PSU is a decent brand, but at £25.84 inc VAT, I'm guessing it's not the best, and might not be well suited to Crossfire!
* P5K might not support RAID

Total: £300.67 inc VAT and delivery.

edit: I failed 'cos I forgot the damn optical drive :(

might also be worth checking the members market for a second hand geforce 7 series, then the savings can be put toward a slightly better psu or new hsf.

I'd go for a dual layer DVD burner over a DVD-ROM personally as the saving is so small. I know it's a cheap system but even so...

Here's my slightly drunken setup:

Mind you that would need a heatsink as well for some extra cooling.

this is the best build sub £300. all i would say is...if games are not an issue, get a 3650 or a x1900 (2nd hand) and get a hsf and a bigger hdd and wait till the summer for the new cards to come out and the old ones to drop.

edit:dont get a p31 board unless you have to and defo make sure all dvd drives and hdd are sata.
