I dunno how many people know that a certain highstreet games retailer is selling the HD-DVD add on for the 360 for £19.99 or £24.99 with any 2 films.

If that is not a good bargain in itself, it comes with an official remote that retails at £19.99 rrp ) thou £14.99 online.

The HD-DVD format might be dead but the remote is useful for dvix streaming, and 2 films for £5 is good value even in SD nevermind HD ! That makes the drive itself in the value of £5 !!!!!!

And the drive can be attached to the PC too and can be made region free for DVD with AnyDVD.

Spending any money on a dead format doesn't sound like a bargain to me. :)

I got one for £13 delivered from Germany, I got the remote (which I wanted), a HD-DVD drive and an external DVD for my PC (which I also wanted).

Seems like a bargain to me.

seems like quite a good idea to me - stock up on cheap HD movies, then when blu-ray comes down in price chuck em and invest in the 'surviving' tech.

I agree - If I found a bargain like that I'd be tempted to go for it - the price of HD-DVDs are very low because it's a dying technology - enjoy the films then sell them on quickly when your ready to convert to blu-ray :)

yup, i picked one up for £20 purely for the remote. gonna snap up a few HD DVDs next month for cheap, cheaper than buying the SD versions so it does work out a complete bargain

My housemate recently bought one - he's a convert after I bought a stand alone player for the TV

Yes it's a dead format but it's region free (and the US has a better selection then us) and films are readily available for under £5. As an example of how cheap they are, Planet Earth on HD DVD is £16 compared to £40 on Blu-Ray!

I seen this offer today when I was in town.

It's certainly a bit of a no brainer, especially if you've been thinking about getting the Media Remote like myself.

Superb bargain imo. The remote is a quality bit of kit (just gave away 3 to friends) and the hd-dvd range has enough quality classics, which easily warrant looking at.

I don't understand how you can say that for this situation. The remote on its own in my eyes is worth £20. There for it it's like buying a remote and getting a free HD-DVD player and if you lucky a free HD movie or two.

I thought everyone liked free stuff?

I bet the folks that spent £120 on it are feeling a little sick now. :(

A 10p VHS player is a bargain, I still wouldn't touch it with a 12 foot barge pole. Spending £300 on a PS3 is a far better purchasing decision than spending £20 on obsolete, redundant tech.

Can this deal be had anywhere online, or something similar? Did a huge trip round belfast looking but had no luck

Like it's a free HD-DVD player and movie. The remote for the 360 by itself is worth the £20 if you watch a lot of media on you 360. It's even more handy if your using Windows Media centre though your 360.

Just because the format war is over does not mean the discs stop working. The vhs argument is moot because the quality is last gen. Hd dvd is same or better quality in some cases to bluray so it's not vhs. It comes with a remote too so its literally free player, the films are 5 quid a pop, the end result as watching a bluray anyway on the screen.0the only argument of not getting one is if you seriously do not have room for it.

External DVD drive - Useful

Remote worth £15-20 - Useful

Added bonus, I can watch HD-DVDs if I want all for £13, of course it's a good deal.

The retailer they're on about isn't in N.I. It's a decent bargain but our shop doesn't sell it with the remote. You can order of the retailer website but I can't link it here.

You can only watch what films are out now, its not as if you can do anything with it in the future, tis a good price still but as said above a dead format that you can't get any new films on.
