No surprise. He had to put up with a lot this year, but it's probably the right decision. His results this season were probably more down to the strength of character at the club than his ability to get 100% out of the players or his tactical know-how.

If John Terry hadn't slipped is Avram Grant a good manager?
Since he slipped is Avram Grant a bad manager?

I think he's a decent manager yeah, he actually got Chelsea to the Champs League final which Mourinho couldn't do. As for what you've said, the answer is arguably yes, if Terry hadn't slipped people would look back in history and see a successful Avram Grant.

Lets be honest. Two things got chelsea to the final, riise's OG and Rafa winding Drogba up before the second leg.
If we are to believe the rumours there will be a lot of changes at chelsea next season. Is Grant really the guy to build a new team and find the best positions for the new recruits? Nothing i saw this season suggested he is.

Not at all surprising, but I still feel sorry for him.

Took Chelsea to the wire in the Premiership and on another day he could be sitting as a CL winner. Seemed a decent guy too.

A nice guy but probably not got the CV to keep him there any longer. I think Chelsea's expectations of him seem to be far too high for not even a full first season.

I wish he'd cracked at least one funny during a press conference too

What If Abramovich's ego makes him get tired of the whole Chelsea circus? He is owed almost £600 million by the club and if he pulls the plug they are in deep doodoo.

Are Chelsea's expectations as a club realistic? It would appear that the minimum standard for Chelsea now is to win the Premier League and the Champions League in the same season. Even saying that Kenyon did moan about not winning the FA CUP and League cup this year also.

Can't see anyone doing much better unless they can unoad the deadwood and build a team themselves over a few yeers like AF/AW both have. If Roman/Kenyon want to pick which payers to buy, they mjght as well hire some champ manager uber-geek to do the rest. Top mangers will get tired of having 'stars' not earning their money and not being allowed to replace them.

Grant did very well for his short tenure - with no real input into the members of the team

Its not surprising but doesnt mean it was right either.

On the other hand he lost three trohpies, when they were in one way or another in his hands (bring on Anelka for a midfielder in a 4-4-2 in the 2nd half and he would probably have won)

Rikjaard will be in the post before the Euro's I would have thought - but it is very interesting who bought JB, was he bought just so someone else didnt buy him? I heard Ballack WAS bought by Jose - even though Shev wasnt, bit irrelevant now though

Even if Abromovich walks away, the club are pretty safe, they are a decent club and with the EPL tv deal are a going concern who can operate in profit if necessary

ummm no if roman walks away that club will suffer for a while ....they won't go into receivership but they will have to cut quite a few of the squad and rebuild slowly, they're Haemorrhaging
cash that no non-super-billionaire owned club can sustain.

their wage bill is phenomenal, no TV deal is covering that.

This thread brought up some strange questions.

Some people said that Grant was never the long plan at Chelsea........they gave him a 4 years contract !

Some people said Ericsson would go there........you kidding, after all that crap he got at Man City with that ego maniac sole owner, why would he swap one for the other who is worst (with a track record)

Mouriniho - I am sure he has a memory longer than a goldfish, the guy won't go back.
