Same difference in pronunciation surely? Bahth and barth sound the same.

If pronounced correctly, they won't sound the same.

"Farther" should not sound like "father", just as "bahth" should not sound like "barth".

I'm not a pretentious twit (nor do I wish to sound like one) so I ignore the silent, invisible R and say it properly.

Bath.

I am not aware of the word barth just as I remain ignorant of the meaning of the baff sound many northerners make. Actually I can't understand much of what they say but it tends to be rubbish anyway. :D

As a Londoner, north = anywhere outside the m25

Bath.

Always will be.

Anyone who says 'Barth' this a Hyacinth Bucket wannabe :p

It's "bahth", not "barth" or "bath".

The "a" is a long, flat one, as in "father". It is not modified by an "r" sound.

^^^^ is correct

I'm guessing most northerners are just ignorant or deliberately want to sound thick. But if you don't want to sound like you sit at home on week days watching trisha & jeremy kyle then 'Bahth' is correct.

It's barth, and what a ridiculous argument that because it's not spelt barth it's not pronounced barth. There's are thousands of words that aren't pronounced the way they are spelt. Dirty dirty northerners.

:D

Bahth for me too

I say Bath.

But I don't say "Book" instead of "Buck" like most of the wannabe scousers around these parts.

Yes, got the idea from the recent Bath/Shower thread.

Just wondered how posh people around these parts were.

Bath for me.

Could a mod please turn this into a poll. Thanks.

It's not about being posh, it's about being a savverner.
