They estimated the repair bill to be 7k but I want to know what they pay me. If the value was 10k do they pay the difference, or do they value the car in it's crashed condition and effectively buy it from me?

It was my fault btw ...:(

If they're going to repair the car then they'll repair it and give it back to you. You won't see any cash, in fact you'll need to pay the excess to the garage before you'll get the car back.

They'll assess it to see whether the parts/labour are worth paying, otherwise they will write it off and payout what the value of the car is based on the mileage etc.

No way will they repair that, I know that much. Car is worth 10k & it's a 7k repair, That is a Financial write off if ever there was one. 10k when he got it as well, What's it worth now ?

edit
Worth now sorted I mean.

well apparently the airbags cost 3-5k so we were thinking it may be possible to repair just the car and have no airbags on one side.

You what
Bare in mind I am only chatting here & don't really know what I am talking about.
Anyway 3k for Airbags Holy **** No wonder my mate drives around in Ferraris & Porkas, he owns Airbag International I think they are called. I could probably get you a Very reasonable deal on the airbags.
Would be great if you get a pay out & then buy the motor back as it sounds a lot less damage when you factor in 3k airbag replacement.
Having heard that I would say they will probably repair it as the damage certainly won't be as bad as I first thought. 7k of metal damage is a write off to me. If it is only a few grands worth of metal damage then a repair is on the cards I'd say.

yeh I nearly fell through the floor when they told me ... the sensors are expensive apparently and the roof needs to come off to redo them!?!

What car is it by the way ? I'll have to ask Cam when I see him, I know he only supplys them though, Saying that I've not seen him to talk to for ages what with his fast life & my uber slow one, He may fit them as well these days. Anyway I'll ask him what sort of dollar they go for. In my head i have around 500 quid a piece but God knows where that's come from. S'pose 6 at 500 a piece would make the 3k straight away & that's without fitting them.
Makes you wonder what will happen to these motors when they are ten years old & summit goes wrong with them.

Just seen the pic, Is that a Laguna ?

if it's a write of they will pay you what they think it is worth and keep the broken car. If you get recent adverts of identical cards with similar milages etc. You can sometimes get them to match those prices

If you want you can then buy the car back of them.

Ahhh, are they all round ones, ie ones that cover the sides as well?

Yeh

Yeh a French Laguna, really impressed with the strength and safety of it ... only 2 people died in the accident ;) (actually not that funny :/)

Hang on, I'll post a pic of the other car.

Don't look that bad in the pic though does it. Sill looks Ok & the door pillar, If so a new wing & a door & a bit of fill & paint & it would be sorted.
I think you want to hope they do write it off, Buy it back bodge it & run it in to the ground for cost effective motoring.
