I drive a 96 Fiesta. Its noisy, rattles, creaks and is uncomfortable. :(

I'm looking for a motor that is quiet and comfortable, maximum of £1k and not going to be costly to insure (24 yrs old, 1 yr NCB). Economy, while of course preferable, is not a huge factor given that I do relatively low mileage. Grandad mobiles and barges are welcome. Performance is a non issue.

Professors of bangernomics please advise. :)

Cheers

Barge? find an old e34 520i, relaitively cheap to run, bomb proof build quality, decent ones can be had for peanuts.

Very smooth engine / drive line but no rocket ship.

Otherwise, Mondeo, but they are so boring - I know, I have one. :)

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have to admit the Mondeo looks a good choice, particularly the Ghia X model, full leather interior and some toys. Never driven in one though. :) Looks a good car for a couple of hundred.

Dunno about R124's idea of a BMW though. I've been tempted by the idea but as people have mentioned before, with a prestige car comes a prestige cost if it breaks down. :(

One car I have seen that has tempted me also is the Honda Accord coupe. Seen some of these on autotrader with full leather interior going for sub 1,000. Looks a nice motor to me, not driven it or rode in one, but looks the part. Am I dancing with death by entertaining the idea of one of those at this kind of age? e.g. 1996 or 1997 .. seems a bit fishy to me, i.e. too good to be true a coupe with full leather, automatic etc going for a couple of hundred.

Cheers

Sounds like a good idea to me,
honda should be reliable, could get a subaru legacy? Volvo 440?
you can get all sorts for under a grand, just have a wonder around autotrader and see what you like ;)
