Looks like a Canon 400D

Two reasons I supose:

1) Converting from RAW or resizing the jpeg. Takes more time.

2) He wouldn't be able to show off

No idea, I got it for Christmas off my mum. I'll go and ask her.

Edit: She said some picture shop in Chelmsford, I asked what they were called and she doesn't remember but she thinks it's a nationwide chain
