Cant beat the car models in GT5p though, easily the best I've seen in a car game. Physics may not be as 'realistic' as Forza, by subjective criticism, but I found GT5p a lot more fun in terms of handling, braking, etc. especially with my mates wheel!
What is GT5's competition on the 360?

wouldn't worry comparing seeing people are comparing a retail game against a demo of a unfinished product.
gt5p blows away any racer on the 360 no doubt about it
pgr4 looks ok but runs at 30fps and low res
Out of the races out now i preffered PGR 4, fun racing/perfect handling/great courses. I found forza 2 to be a bore fest, the courses was just mind numbing 
also GT5 to look at is stunning but i found it to be rather boring also, i preffered GT1 out of all the GT's.
also GT5 to look at is stunning but i found it to be rather boring also, i preffered GT1 out of all the GT's.I think you've hit the nail on the head and following on from Streeteh's comment, it's clear PD went to town on the cars, as a result there has to be a balancing of polygons, if you add more to cars it HAS to be taken out of track details and this is where PGR has always had its focus.
I also find track racing, a lot of the time, very boring and tedious, it was my complaint about Forza and it certainly is with GT5P which just feels too slow and they still don't have the breaking quite right.
I just want a mish-mash of them all:
- Cars from Gran Turismo 5
- Tracks from Project Gotham Racing 4
- Handling from Forza Motorsport
- Weather from Project Gotham Racing 4
- Career structure from Project Gotham Racing 3
- Online integration from Project Gotham Racing 3
- Music from Burnout Revenge
That would be just about perfect

Only one problem with it, it needs to have proper tracks too, so id have the tracks from PGR4 and also from Forza 2. Other than that I think someone should make it.

that game was awesome on the PS1. was all about dropping a sticky mine then unleashing your special.
I used to think that. But now I am used to triggers I far prefer it.
Really fallen for Forza2, not been so addicted to a racing game since GT4 came out (and GT3 before it, GT2 and then back to GT1

Totally agree, they lost any right they had to say 'dont complain, its not finished' the second the greedy swines decided to charge for it im affraid. I know the 'Full' version is some way off, but then why not release the thing as a FREE demo, then no one could moan as its clearly a work in progress.
Forza II beets GT5p for realism
PGR4 beets GT5p for fun

Its very rarely a final product now, as it seems developers now on purpusly leave out content so they can charge for it 6 months down the line as an extra download.

Seriously good game, its a little boring to begin with but when you get to L20 or so it really starts to get good IMO.
And you really do want to better your laptimes in races, I have an on going battle with my boss on a few tracks as you can see friends laptimes
