Anyone have any idea of the quality of these? Noticed them today in a High St. music/dvd shop.

Was looking at these:

Their actual site is having issues but here's the url: http://www.skullcandy.com/

Care to explain? :)

I'm really just after something portable and with decent SQ. Main thing is durability as I've had countless pairs of earphones that break in a few weeks.

I imagine you would be much better off with something from the Sennheiser PX range.

They are the same sort of style as those but most likely a hell of a lot better sounding.

You can tell by just looking at those Skullcandys that they are going to be terrible, and they don't exactly have a good rep either.

Sennheiser's will sound better and they are pretty unbreakable. HD-25SP would be good choice.
Skullcandy = Style over substance.
Agreed, typical case of more money going into marketing than R&D.

Yeah they look pretty cool, but in terms of performance they just don't really compare.

Urgh, they're probably the ugliest pair of 'phones I've seen! I'd go for something from a reputable audio brand.

The Sennheiser PX100s are quite good, but they're open so not so good for portable use in noisy environments. The AKG K81DJ or K518DJ might be better options, although I believe their cables are quite long.

Yup they really are terrible, I made the mistake a while back. Honestly my £10 pair of aiwa argos crap sounds 100 times better than these pieces of horse poo.

If bugdet is the issue then save up some extra and get some senheiser's when you can afford them..

yes they do have a reputation for being garbage
>£30 i would say senn px100 koss ksc75 or portapro maybe igrados (never tried the igrados)

Got a pair this morning before I got a chance to read these posts. TBH, they're perfect for me. Fold away handily, good SQ and seem durable.

Went for the white cause the shop only had green, pink or white left.

If you're happy with them then that's great.

I had a pair of Skullcandy GI's

TBH i can say that they were very nice for the price offering half decent sound (not very subtle though) and bulletproof build. They also went MEGA LOUD!!! :D

Obviously not as musical as the Sennheiser 555's and 595's i've used but they were 1/2 the price of the 555's and 1/4 the price of the 595's.

If they tick all your boxes and were a good price then good job. :)

I've got some GIs, and full metal jackets and smokin buds.. but then I am quite "in bed" with skullcandy :)

I've always found them pretty good, I've tried some lower end Shures and sennheisers and never noticed much difference, the Shures are more comfortable than the full metal jackets but don't stay in anywhere near as well.

Not a big fan of the Lowriders but things like the GI/TI are really nice, good sound and comfy and they look a bit different which is no bad thing.. If we weren't brand conscious I doubt Apple would be anywhere near where they are now!

And then if you want some comedy give some skullcrushers a go.. I doubt I could put up with it for long but they certainly bring a smile to my face :D

my friend had a pair, the ears fell off them

Koss KSC75's can be had for less than £20. Great bang for buck IMO

+1 on Mikes recommendation, the best headphone purchase I made and the cheapest !

Erm take them back, quickly, get your money back. Sorry but skullkandy are truly crap headphones, sort of like the cheap version of BOSE, and the less said about either the better :)

Good SQ I will disagree on, they are truly awful !

To the OP, I would check out the sennheiser HD25SP, even sennheiser PX100, the koss KSC 75 clip-on.

Have to love that description from the manufacturer, that MONSTER driver is as MONSTROUS as a 40mm cpu fan ;)

audiophiles are a touch crowd though, I'm sure it's like camera lovers etc.. not sure if I'm some sort of freak but I really struggle to tell the difference between low/mid range stuff (skullcandy) and mid-high range stuff (senn/shure etc) and god knows I've tried em :)

Plus I like the guy from skullcandy, we get on :)

Was it HMV or Virgin/Zavvi you bought them from?

The first but I think they are competitors. Found a pair of GI's like the ones posted above for £32 on the Bay that I'll get soon.
