Help with boost gauge please!

Hi all,

My car has an Omori Boost Gauge. The problem being is, when the ignition is off the needle sits at around the 6 o clock area, as opposed to '0'

A tad annoying, as it's hard to say exactly what boost the car is pushing, especially annoying considering i'm going to start upping it soon and i'd rather not start tweaking the boost without an accurate indication of how much is already being pushed!

My question is, would it be a simple case of moving the needle on the gauge when the ignition isn't on? Or am I looking at a new one?

I'm pretty much useless when it comes to electrics, so any advice appreciated.

So with the ignition off the needle sits at 6 o'clock? Where does it sit with the ignition on and the engine not running?

Is this a mechanical gauge or does it have a remote pressure sensor?

When the ignition is on, it will move slightly more towards the 5 o clock area, vacuum?

I'm not sure about the second question, I believe it will be electronic, but couldn't say for sure.

The gauge does respond when under boost though, that's for sure, it just doesn't get past 0!
 
If it's electronic (i.e. wires go into back of gauge rather than a pipe) then it sounds like the sensor is either duff or possibly not wired correctly. Moving the needle (assuming it's not been moved before) would mean the movement would never indicate vacuum, and you couldn't be sure the calibration was correct under boost even then.

I'd recommend you get your hands on a mechanical boost gauge, they tend to be more accurate and last longer.
 
It moves from the 5 o clock position, up to around just above '0' under boost.

So it's reading something, just not accurately!

If it was the sender, wouldn't it still sit correctly ( ie 0 ) when the ignition is off?

Thanks for the advice, i'll get a mechanical gauge, and give it a try!
 
Seems like a duff sensor however my gauge rests at six o clock position when switch off when the ignition is on without the engine running it rests at 0 with the engine runing at idle the gauage rests at around 7 - 8 o clock position. My gauge is a pro sport electrical type.
