R600 all over again ?, 4870 XT only 9800 GTX competitor ?

Well its really confusing if 4850 is faster then 3870x2 as ati say how it can be 8800gt competitor  or just fudzilla is coming up with the ideas from the there bums :)

bums tbh.

4850 just won't be faster than 3870X2. It can't be so.

Its like the 8600GT being faster than the 7950GX2.

Given the right clock and mobo the 7950GX2 could keep up with the 640mb 8800GTX, even the 8800GTX wasn't *that* far in front.

ATi striving for mediocrity again. Hope it doesn't go the way of the 2900, we were all waiting, Gibbo testing the card on Doom 3 but unable to print the frame rates (which as it turns out, would have embarrassed ATi).

Predictable, as they would need to make a larger technological leap than NVidia to catch them up, GPU wise.

I'm getting tired of all the pre-release GPU guff TBH. I'll wait until launch and see some benchmarks. If any of them can make CoJ DX10 or Crysis playable, with the details maxed at 1900x1200, then I'm interested. If not, my 8800GT is doing a good enough job.

All this talk and banter of next gen cards just isn't getting my juices flowing, if you know what I mean. ;)

And what I actually mean is, why would I want to splash out now on another new card now?

It certainly won't be to play crysis over again. And what else is there that might need such graphical prowess? Far Cry 2 has been put back till November, Alan Wake has gone quiet. I mean, am I missing something here or is it just because they can and haven't done for a while?

Lego Indy runs fine on my GTS! :D

+1

the banter has just confirmed I'm happy with my 8800GTX for the foreseeable future.

Wait, you're saying dual video cards and multiple cpu cores are all snake oil?

Are you sure you're not stuck in a time loop from 2005 or 2006?

Well,let's see.....yes.

How many games and apps use all four of my cores? none. The only difference in going from 2-4 cores is that I now have 3 cores doing nothing most of the time.
Have NV/ATi released the drivers yet that make SLI/Crossfire just work on absolutely any 3d program rather than just the tiny handful that support it themselves?

Did I miss a meeting?

Well, being the 4850 is the second fastest product in the range, at least until the 4870X2 comes out, it's really more like the 8800 GTS G80 keeping up with the 7950 GX2, which it did.

The 4850 wont be faster than the 3870x2.....say what you want about reviews etc that have still to come but the only games it may be faster than it would be games that dont support crossfire

Because of Fudzilla's obviously amazingly accurate and unbiased reporting?

at the bottom of the page there's a link to the next page where they position the cards on roadmaps against NV and older ATI parts.

Still makes no sense to me but it might to some of you?
