Indiana Jones and the blah blah Fail *SPOILERS*

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed the film, as far as we were concered to was an Indiana jones adventure and an enjoyable adventure at that.

i don't know why there's so much hate, what were people expecting from this film?

Simply put Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is science-fiction and not fantasy-fiction like everything else in the series that has preceeded it.

in no way is this a sci-fi movie.. hasn;t all the mayan/s american culture revolved around the myths of aliens??

Did anyone see the Ark in the box towards the end of the warehouse scene? :) After the truck smashed through the boxes. If you can remember, at the end of the raiders of the lost ark you see the guy pushing the boxed up ark into that warehouse.

You cannot compare the 2 directly or even indirectly because T3 was by no means made in accordance with James Cameron's original plan of let's say T2 and it's blindly obvious when watching one after the other, the the terminator series is also meant to be 100% serious in setting, acting and presentation whereas indy was always a more relaxed type of adventure film for the whole family to enjoy!

The box was closer to the exit than the original location they stowed it in so they must have rejigged around or examined the Ark at one or more points in time, could them showing the Ark be an indicator of something to come in Indy 5? !

A little of topic but something that bugs me a little, I recently played through Drake's Fortune and whilst playing through it I kept thinking "WoW this is a bit like an Indy film...cool" However, whilst watching the film I occassionally thought, hmm, that was a bit like Drake's Fortune. There is something going wrong there, Drake's story if actually much better.

I'm not comparing them at all. I'm of the opinion that they should have left Terminator well alone after 2, same as I feel about them leaving Indi alone after 3.

Whenever I get into these sort of debates about films it always seems the people I can't settle with seemed to like Terminator 3 as well as the film I'm thrashing! :D Just thought I'd check if it's the same case with this one.

Yeah I'd agree with that although I'd say the subject matter was meant to be taken fairly seriously, as in you know like the holy grail isn't funny etc. I just found the whole Alien thing in Crystal Skull laughable and a big departure from the originals. Just wasn't the Indiana Jones I grew up with at all.

Although I realise that the two theories aren't mutually exclusive, those that generally believe in the Alien influence on lost civilisations generally believe that it is a replacement for God and modern religious beliefs. To have The Ark, The Holy Grail and then throw in an Alien scenario which replaces typical gods just doesn't sit well with me, they should have left it about made up stuff like God.:)
Ok, I'll give you that. Would make some sense to stick with one or the other.

I just don't see why it would affect you that much, you do realise Christianity and islam are not the only religions out there? In some religions they write and draw about their gods who descended from the skies, the Egyptians showed us this in hieroglyphs as did other ancient civilisations.

So indeed gods from the skies could be both a non physical being or a physical one depending on which faith you adopt!

Calling it a rubbish film just because of this is a rubbish thing to do.

It wasn't a rubbish film just because of that, it was also a rubbish film because of the awful script, poorly devised plot, and sub-par acting on all counts.

Sub par acting? you need to watch the other indy films AGAIN then because there's more cheesy moments in those than in Indy 4, I know this because I just re-watched the trilogy this bank holiday weekend!

I've seen the originals umpteen times... there's a difference between cheesy acting that is good and funny... and cheesy acting that is notable for its' absence of wit and quality.

The acting, script and feel in the new film is nothing compared to the originals, nowhere near the same league... I can't believe you can't see that... but then again people have different standards of acceptable quality I suppose.

I have a fairly high degree of expectations for films (Film student) which is why I fully enjoy very few films that are meant to be serious but end up being duff and Indy4 is certainly not anywhere near those types of film, besides I knew it being an Indy film I should just shut down and enjoy the film which we all did and judging by the reactions in the cinema everyone else did too.

What it lacks it makes up for more than enough times just being being an Indiana Jones film with its original cast (albeit with some new additions) filled with Indy jokes, locations and references.

Wait, what? You are telling me that there is anything quite as aw(e)ful as "kid, you've just brought a knife to a gunfight" or whatever the wording is in any of the other three? If there is then I've totally ignored it on multiple rewatches, please don't ruin them for me.

It's actually a well known saying. But despite that, the delivery of the line was pretty awful.

I'm aware of the saying, Jay-Z even raps it in Takeover, I just can't believe they used it because it is so exceptionally cheesy and the delivery was deadpan rather than knowingly comedic - I don't think even Harrison Ford wanted to be saying the line, he knew how excruciatingly bad it sounded.

I thought it was..... "meh"

The best bit was when Shias character walked into a little blob of something hanging on a spiders web and said "AH... its, just a..thing"

Well me and my mates laughed, didnt hear anyone else though, which made it even funnier.

...The entire film had absolutely zero charisma... none of the old charm and humour... I don't think there was a single point where I thought to myself: "Yeah, this is the Indy I love"... in fact I barely broke a smile....

Quoted for truth.

Spielberg should have stuck to what Indy was about rather than bringing back ET at the same time! Really disappointed despite a couple of good moments.
