2005 Volvo S40 T5 AWD - Thoughts?

Really interested in these at the moment and could be looking to test drive one in the near future.

I understand it has the same engine as the Focus ST?

On paper it seems like a very good car!

Are Volvo still producing bomb proof cars?

On a separate note, why why why do Ford not use this as a base for the RS i.e the AWD bit as as I assume the chassis is the same?

What relationship to Ford and Volvo have?

I've read somewhere that the RS would be too expensive with AWD/RWD?

It shares the same basic chassis because Ford own Volvo. Shame chassis as what is used on the Mazda 3 as well

Already developed by the looks of it. Just need to tweak the power and handling and rebody to look like this

Not something I'd ever buy but I quite like the look of that. I'd have one over a Focus ST.

Focus uses same basic 5 Cylinder Turbo block as this car, which is a Volvo engine (that Ford Stole). Build quality is still good, although some claim not as good as it used to be (pre ford ownership).

Definatley used.

Seen them advertised at around 11-12k with 20,000 miles.

i am currently due to hand back my s40 2.0d se lux. done 80k in 3 years, trouble free motoring. been a superb car mate and would recommend the s40 to anyone, i have also driven the T5 and its a blast.

I'm not really into cheapo hatchbacks with stripes on them really, plus couldnt tolerate the plasticy build

Good cars if you've got low standards though, so I wont knock them

i would also have one over a focus ST
had a V50 for a few years, never any problems
bit dull, but i'm sure a lowered, sporty T5 would be miles better

Ford own Volvo.

I really really like the S40 in R Design with the T5, but it is quite expensive when specced up (moreso than a Focus ST)

I believe the AWD drive version was only available within 2004-2007 models? Shame because I prefer the facelift version SO MUCH more even though not much is changed.

EDIT - Also it will depreciate like a bomb
