Received my new N82 today... frst impressions...

What firmware are you guys running?

Not updated mine since it came out of the box. Cant class the phone as slow but im pretty sure its not as fast as the first day I had it and I havnt really installed anything on it.

Mine is running the out-of-the-box firmware, apparantly there's a risk of it wiping it's memory and I can't be bothered to put all my contacts back in again!

Got one of these for £30 from carphone warehouse, on o2 (due to swapit deal, only 8months left of my contract now), loving it so far! the in-built gps / sports tracker application are awesome

quick question about the GPS:

I have a Nokia n73 at moment which runs tomtom and i have a bluetooth sat nav gps receiver that sits in the car so i have sat nav through my phone.

In the N82, is the gps a actuall sat nav ? can i use it instead of tom tom on my N73 ?
is it better than tomtom ?
is it accurate and most of all free?

thanks as I am looking to upgrade and do consider this phone.

Just curious about what the actuall gps does

Strictly speaking no, not until you buy some software.

can i use it instead of tom tom on my N73 ?

Yes, you'll need extra software

is it better than tomtom ?

No, how could it possibly? It's a primarily a phone, the screen is much smaller for a start.

is it accurate ?

It's acceptable, pretty accurate.

and most of all free?

Yes and no. Depends what data plan you have and if you have AGPS on/off.

Bottomline, if you want a Sat Nav, get a sat nav. If you are buying the phone for the GPS alone, you'll be disappointed as it is not as versatile as a dedicated sat nav.

I can't notice any difference in practise with my N82 GPS than I could with a dedicated Tom Tom One! The fact that it's pocket sized makes it immeasurably superior in my book, I love it to bits!

And the battery on this phone is simply outstanding. /hugphone.

If only it had a large touchscreen... :(

Right, got one from orange arriving tomorrow, tell me, can i
A) stick my TomTom software on it that I use at the moment on my Nokia N73

and

B) Install some application to allow me to use Hotmail/MSN messanger on it wirelessly in my home and at other places with free wi-fi ?

I have the Nokia N73 on Orange at moment and IF, I stay with orange and then Upgrade is this any faster / better than the N73 as the N73 is so slowwwwwwwwwwww seriously, ,,,,so slow unless you had/have one you wont know what I mean, takes ages to open Gallery, take a photo, no chance of taking a quick spontaneous photo thats for sure on the N73

I went from an N73 to N82 and the N82 is considerably faster :)

Im in two minds about getting one, I dont really need it PAYG is suffice but the phone calls are quite pricey on it! Plus I cracked the screen on my phone :(

The n82 is just sparkly and has loads of features and I like my gadgets :o Would cost me 3x more a month though.

Quick questions

Orange does it for £25pcm with £30 for the phone which im happy with whats the net usage? Do you get any free? And if I use wifi I wont get charged for anything will I?

Whats the best deals on this phone at the mo :)

bump!

got mine yesterday man this phone rocks but then again I did move up from a d600 so a bit behind the times :P

Any good apps I can put on this badboy?

I like the look of this phone a lot, but admit that i've never really got into the mobile phone jargon so it can be a bit confusing. :( I'm on PAYG (seems like hardly anyone is nowadays!), would it be silly getting it on PAYG? Will most of the features be locked? :p I don't text or phone enough to warrant a contract.

Having trouble with my battery. It keeps running out really quickly, so waited for it to almost out and charged it overnight but the battery keeps running out in less than a day. Same thing just happened, so put it on charge - less than an hour later it says the battery is full. Only about four months old and normally the battery lasts days....

Faulty battery... it happens with any device, at any time. Get a new one off Ebay. :)

Sorry to bring this back up, but RichDog - now you've had yours for some time, on average how long does you battery last?

Just recieved 4 of these phones on my business plan and mine is flat in under 24 hours! I only listened to some music for about 10 mins in that time and made no calls.

Need to check with the other users, but this doesn't look good.

Oh, and I switched to GSM mode for the last 24 hours too.

Also, do you switch the phone off at all. I always leave mine on (in standby)

If yours is flat in under 24 hours then something is wrong. Mine lasts a solid 4 hours of MP3's, numerous calls, internet browsing etc and still has enough juice when I get home after a long day in London. Have you got Wi-Fi scanning enabled as default? That KILLS the battery.

How do you turn off the WLAN scanning?

Edit - nvm, done it. Just highlight it on the front screen and clcik turn off. lol.
