Your living style + question about house bills

Depending on how many of yous are renting together, that's a pretty awesome apartment, enough to get by is enough! though with the cost of living recently yous will have to pitch in quite a bit!

Shopping, Electric, Heating/Gas yous should talk over about splitting costs before you put your name on anything, as it tends to get pricey!

Students paying near £500 a month in rent? Mummy must love you.
I should have put a troll disclaimer.

I'm moving away to do my placement for a year and whilst the pay is basic(ish), I have savings should I need it.

I have a few options, a friend has offered me a place round his for £200 or so a month but that leaves the other student stranded.

I'd like a comfortable, secure place to live but then I'd really have to budget hard.

There is 2 of us renting. Exc food, what should we be looking at for bills?

2 bedrooms? £975 a month? Either you're minted, or you need to reassess your thinking...

I pay around £240 rent a month for a nice student house, and that doesn't leave me a whole lot to live on.

Squat somewhere for nowt & waste All your money on partying. You won't have to worry about damage or the neighbours so you can party every night. Jack into the local lamp post for leccy & rip floorboards up for fire wood. Each house should last you around 3 months so you'll only need a sleeping bag & a box of matches.

Depending on what the rent actually covers I'd guess..

Electricity - £48 per month, 2 bedroom apartment
Gas - Included in the above.
Water - £12 a quarter iirc.. Can't find last statement/bill
Contents Insurance - £14 a month, 2 bedroom apartment, alarmed.
TV License - £11 a month iirc
Phone line?
Broadband?

Council Tax - Not applicable to students??!?
Communal fee's - Included in rent?!?!

I used to be of the thinking of more in the pocket and smaller place, now im the opposite. Nicer place and less to blow is fine, just get used to staying in, after a while its not even an issue. :)

Having done both, I would choose the apartment every time. Having money is great but going home to a shabby house everyday gets depressing after a while.

At the end of the day you are throwing away £500 a month. If I was renting I would rent cheap and save up for a deposit.

Well he isn't throwing it away. He is paying for a service that he needs.

If I were you i'd find a happy medium. That flat looks to be up on the high end of things. Can you not find a decent enough 2 bedroom place that is less and thus have more money for other things.

Knowing your living in a nice flat but having no spare money for the forseeable future I'd say would be fairly depressing.

Dammit! That's the same price as the 2 bedroom we just got in London, and ours isn't anywhere near as nice as that, lol!

Going by experience of most youngsters that I know; you will probaly turn it into a **** tip within a short time anyway so go for the **** tip to begin with.

Of course it won't be, it's London, that flat is in Oxford.

You'd need to pay close to twice that for something comparable in a good london location.

Make sure they allow students etc, personally i wouldnt want a student sharing a place like that!

anyway, get 2 rooms in a shared house, will be much cheaper and more fun.

thats a seriously flash house for student and way over the top. im pretty sure you could find a cheaper alternative though
