2 lane dual carridgeway on to 2 lane roundabout.
I'm going straight on in the right lane.
Woman in left lane indicating left.
As we go around the roundabout, woman changes her mind, indicates right and cuts straight across my path. I grabbed a handful of brake and locked the front before releasing it. Missed her by inches. Trousers now full.

Wish I'd been in the car. I would have just slammed in to her nice new E-class.

Lucky rilot ! Grabbing the front brake when cornering is never a nice experiance it feels very wrong.

I had a moment too today, got fully sideways on a small roundabout. Think it was due to very greasy conditions and the camber, was corrected by mashing the right pedal though :p

I was upright at the time as I was just at the mid point of the roundabout.

Ahh.. just read your post properly :o If you'd grabbed the front brake and locked up when you were on your side you would have definately gone sliding :p

Completely unrelated to your motorbike experiance but when I was about 10 I remember riding my bike on some realy slippy concrete at home, I thought it would be fun to lockup the front wheel and see how far I could slide.. I did maybe two slides ? then I tried it another time and ended up in a heap on the floor :D

Do bikes have horns? Or are they more like cyclist-bells? lol

Yes, but they are usualy quite naff lol

I always take the defensive option in this scenario whether on a bike or in a car. I never go side-by-side with another car and usaually fall back to just behind it so that if the other driver does change their mind, I have enough space to avoid them.

I learned the hard way, a bit like you did. The exact same thing happened to me on a bike and it frightened the life out of me.

Yea never used mine though lol its a little button that you just never seem to go for in anger lol, hands are usually busy trying to stay on lol, then after the incident your thanking your lucky stars your ok to sound the horn.

She's a **** no other word for it.

Or maybe she's a really nice person who may not have a great deal of driving skill. People make mistakes on the roads, some sillier than others. It doesn't make them all arses though. Even the best of us make stupid mistakes on the road.

agreed

i once looked both ways at a junction, pulled out, but never for the life of me saw the bloke on the moped. He pulled alongside me geting off his bike demanding i get out of the car calling me every name under the sun.

I just shrugged my shoulders and drove on leaving him behind.

Everybodys human. If she didnt see you, she didnt see you. Doesnt automatically make her a bad person. We all make mistakes.

I only usually form oppinions of people if i'm sat behind / in front of them and observe consistently bad driving.

Nah, if I get a near miss on my bike owing directly to the action of a person whether they make a mistake or not, that person is instantly degraded to beyond scum level I'm afraid. I'm just very intollerant of people putting my life on the line. Yes ok you make a mistake but if she had looked (which I bet you she didn't) or had better awareness of what was around her she'd have not swerved instantly - that's dangerous in itself. Mistakes happen yes, but unless they kill me, they can reap the consequences afterwards as far as I'm concerned - and I am unrelenting.

Im with Freefaller on this, yes it was a mistake but when bikes are concerned a mistake can mean my death.

Unrelenting? What do you do? Cause criminal damage to their car? Assault them?

No I kill 'em :p

Seriously though, if there was a collision I'd initiallly be extremely irate and testosterone-driven but I think I'd be able to stop myself from doing anything silly and 9/10 I'd win so it's in my best interest not to do anything silly. What I would DEFINITELY do though is get my lawyers on the case and hang them up to dry. :) If people can't learn from their mistakes they need to be taught a lesson. I don't care if it'll leave them in a tough financial position - it's not my problem. It's my life I'm looking after, I don't care about others in such situation I'm afraid. This is only if I feel my life has been put at risk. In every other situation I'd deal with it in a fair and compassionate way. I feel very strongly about this - and I will be stubborn and French/Cyptiot about it.

Used to happen to me all the time. Quite a few cars round here had broken right rear lights ;)

Indecisive hesitant motorists who change direction unpredictably are just the worst. The amount of people who slam on, maybe indicate then turn i nthe space of a couple of metres is disgausting.

you think that makes any difference ?

doesnt matter how serious the consequences are, nobodys perfect and we all make mistakes and forget things.

You can preach about how unforgivable not looking for a motorcyclist is. doesnt make you any less likely to make mistakes than anybody else.
