If you had £500 to spend on a watch...

Theres no point.
It doesn't have any fancy features or anything.

If you pay a lot of money for a car or an instrument it's understandable because a car you'll get faster and more refined, an isntrument a better tone.
What do you get from a watch? Apart from putting a lloyd grosman accent on and telling people who don't care how much you paid for it.

A thing of beauty and possibly a piece of history. I doubt it'd get worn more than a couple of times a year and I'm not the type for the whole "you see this watch, guess how much it cost" thing. That's not the point of buying it.

£500 isn't enough to spend to bother getting a watch as 'an investment'.

Ok, maybe investment wasn't the right choice of words. How about 'to keep for ever until I die and can then pass it on to my children'.

The deal is; I was given something a very long time ago which I recently sold as it had reached it's peak value and I had no real use for it. I now want something else to replace it and I'd quite like that to be a watch. I have £500 from the sale.

I'd go for the Stowa Airman which comes in at about 500:

I'd spend £20 on a digital one from Argos, a fiver on a long strap for it, get the rest of the money in £5 notes and use the long-strapped watch to secure £475 to my wrist.

IMO they really don't look great for all that money. And buying a watch as an investment is truely rediculious.

Good watches will generally hold their value very well and limited editions will often go up in value.
They will also be made to a much higher standard and often look better than a cheap one (depending on your own personal taste, of course).

Personally I would spend £50-150 on a watch and then just stick the rest in my bank account.

I can see you now pulling up to Argos in your big low rider, people would say "how cool is that Nicky, he doesnt need to spend money on looking cool"

If i had £500 to buy a watch I would spend around £30 on a watch and spend the £470 on something more useful :p

I dont wear a watch so probs would'nt even spend the £30 lol ;)

each to there own i guess

Used Seamaster

Same as me and I've just picked one up for £550 and it's automatic too. Just a shame it's not titanium, so not 100% I'll keep it as the weight is annoying me.
