Best guitar solo of all time?

Yep, love that too - there's something about the Tornado solo that just makes me want to go faster whilst driving (sign of a good solo).. :)

I know what you mean! It's that sweeping part that Marty does, he does it in The Killing Road too. Wicked guitar player.

Though i'm a fan of some fantastic guitarists and I practically worship Iron Maiden like it was a religion - The best solo of all time for me is still Hotel California by Joe Walsh and Don Felder.

It's perfect. It couldn't be any better.

He doesn't get anywhere near enough credit these days. Probably more of an influence to guitarists of today than Page/Hendrix are.

Incidentally, I think his Jump solo is one of his best ever, and I also love the Panama solo.

Other solo's I love:

Nuno - Get the Funk Out and Heman Woman Hater (no, not bumblebee the solo in the song!)
Marty Friedman - Ashes in your Mouth and Train of Consequences
Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
Kirk Hammet - Master of Puppets or The Struggle Within
John Pettruci - The Dance of Eternity
Zakk Wilde - The solo in Helpless on the Dweezil Zappa album Confessions
Slash - Estranged
Tom Morello - Settle For Nothing
Mike McReady - Alive
And so many by Satriani and Vai, but they are more whole songs than solos!

Pick one? Bah, impossible!

A man after my own heart *tips hat*

Guthrie Govan - Fives

Easily my favourite instrumental electric guitar track (and I usually hate instrumental electric guitar music). The riff just oozes of pure awesomeness.

EDIT: The fact he appears to be my aged twin makes it even better. :D

Personally I think he's one of the best I've ever heard.

I've had a chance to think about this question and I'm completely stumped. I've given up trying.

I also love his solo on Foreclosure of a Dream. Marty had the rare ability to not only shred like a god, but to make a complex solo fit with a song exactly - to quote one Mr. Ventura "Loike a Gluv-eh!". :)

Carcass - Keep On Rotting In The Free World

Probably somewhere here...

You seem to have Carcass on your mind a lot - did they pop up on random on your MP3 player or something? :D Just mentioning them reminds me of.....no, wait, that's a whole new topic.

On the way home last night I indulged myself in a load of Friedman guitar-magic :D

can't really pick one but I do have a soft spot for Steely Dans - Do it again sitar solo, here it is played on guitar.

can watch this over and over
