Foxconn BlackOps Intel X48 Review

Been playing with one for a few days now.

Good points

I'm very impressed by the build quality of the board

BIOS is well set out and easy to use, Every option you could get need is there, The text explaining most options is a vast improvment on most other brands

The 4in1 Quantum Cooler is a great design that works well, I removed the Quantum Cooler form the board and it used properly applied thermal paste unlike most other manufacture boards

Zero vdrrop on this board aswell :)

Bad Points

Is a pain to flash the BIOS needs the flashing program to be run from dos, I've been spoilt with easy BIOS flashing with my asus board

The board is tuned for quad core CPU's, Seems a waste to use anything less than a QX9650 in it to be honest

Going to try a few more CPU's in it and see if it can beat a rampage's FSB walls, If anyone wants to know anything about the board just ask :)

Hi mate,
Thanks for the reply. Any chance you can push the FSB with a 45 Quad?

Looking for a stable 475+ on the X48 chipset with a 45 Quad.

one for the LN2 and Cascade peeps, i'm sure for them it's a monster.

pointless for everyone else apart from epeen.

LOL.

People are spending this sort of money on 790i Ultra mobo's and even more on QX cpu's. Pointless to you but I'm sure some people will fancy a change or like to splash out without needing a epeen extension.

what pay £260 for a board so you can put 2v through your £600 processor?

be sure to post pics before the fire :p (all in good fun m8 ;))

Personally i'd rather save £100 and live with a slightly lower FSB.

Plus if you have a QX you don't even need to mess about with FSB, just multi it all the way to the top.

The top of the NB water block on this board is aluminum also the barbs are just plated aluminum  Its a real shame Foxconn cut corners on such an expencive board.

Asgard I didnt have chance to test the max FSB today, I'll make sure i do it tomorrow

the barbs you can get round but the top of the block is just criminal... even if the bottom of the block was alu I could just about understand it but they've actually BUILT it for galvanic corrosion? That's nuts!

True matt over at xs there going mad about this and they keep not trying to answer this question.

Thats a real shame. Had problems in the past mixing metals so thats a no no for me. Very suprised they cut corners by not using copper especially considering the price.

Thanks for the info mate.

Max FSB

QX9650 485
Q9450 476
X3350 485

No real improvment over my Rampage to be honest, Also the board hates OCZ ram with a passion, I couldnt get any of the 1600, 1800, 2000 stick to work without failing memtest. The Corsair Dominator and DHX work fine tho.
