The lad really doesn't know when to stop. I've done a few things in the past that are somewhat "questionable" but the last thing I would do is tell you lot.
I blew 47 in 100, had the offer of blood but only came down to 42. 12 months and £180 - AND I wasn't in the car. Like I said we've all got a story to tell. An internet forum isn't the place though

So how can you of held a license for 5 years, yet you didn't have it when you where 18?
Get real, its drink driving, hardly the end of the world. Hundreds of people are caught every day, do you think they should all be disabled for life as a result?
When its the cause of the end of somebody elses world then sure, why not?
No insurance, under the influence and messing it up for the rest of us. Die in a fire.
Correct me if I mis-read your tone, but it sounded like you were excusing the crime because 100s of people get caught every day
No, there is no way the whole insurance thing will ever stand up as police have not seen him driving the vehicle, nor has he been charged with drink driving.
Police have no power to seize uninsured vehicles if they have not been driven on a public road at the time they were stopped.
Even if he had been driving and they seized it, he would still have 7 days to retrieve it.
I am in no way excusing it, as people have said, if you cant do the time dont do the crime. However i really dont think its something to get this wound up about, its a common every day thing which people do all the time, every single day. If you took all the times people have drink driven in the entire country, how many actually result in even getting caught, let alone causing anyone any harm?

42 is unlucky, police only charge for 40 and up. The Met police that is, don't know about the rest.
I think hes well beyond saving. The sooner he wraps himself round a tree the better.

are u telling me u cant even carry your car keys with you? its ok as long as the keys aint in the ignition.

Sounds like a ban is just what you deserve.
Having said that, is a ban going to stop you driving seeing as drink and lack of insurance didn't.

Agreed. My house keys and car keys are the same thing. Meaning ive had my car keys with me every time ive even been out drinking in the 5 years ive owned cars...
Im sure theres an offence about intent to drive, like you drove to the pub and plan to drive back, but its hardly applicable when im out on the lash 10 miles away and my car is on my drive, and my keys are in my pocket because without them i wouldnt be able to get back in my house.

The offence is still there.
The likelyhood of getting arrested for it is extremely low. If you are arrested for it, the likelyhood of the custody sergeant authorising your detention is even lower and would most likely NFA the case on the spot. The likelyhood of police proceeding to charge you for it is even smaller. The likelyhood of the CPS willing to prosecute for it is smaller again and the likelyhood of a magistrate punishing you for it is microscopic.
But the offence has still been committed.
