im now looking for an online racing game. i know test drive unlimited has been out for quite sometime now. would u guys still recommend me to buy the game? are there still a lot of players playing it online? and it has no monthly fees right?

No monthly fees, I'm not sure about how many people are online, I haven't touched it for awhile, but from what I understood, the MP wasn't that great at all.

decent enough offline but online is and always has been awful. Been on it a bit recently and there's never anyone around. Can't easily find friends either. If you want good online racing, try Trackmania.

Trackmania is great fun online. As for me, im waiting for GTR evolution, the expansion to Race 07. Hopefully it will be as good as GTR2 with even better graphics :D

i dont understand why u ppl saying dont bother with online play, yes its hard to find a friend/race but its got everything single player got and more, u can drive to drive-ins and do chalanges other ppl posted even if u cant win them cos some cheater set time of 1.2sec but its fun. U can buy 2nd hand cars for much less that u'd pay in showrooms, if u lucky.
Plus you can cruise around with random ppl tho that might b harder as its not so popular anymore, i havent been on for like a month myself.

Honestly dont bother with offline play, maybe have an offline profile just in case the servers are down tho normaly they back very quickly.

sorry but the above makes me lol.
"Yes it's hard to find a race"
"U can't win the challenges"
"not very popular to drive around"
"in case the servers are down"

oh but you can save a few grand on a second hand car so that's cool. Unless you want to buy something other than an Audi TT in which case the price will be $9,999,999.

Seiously online is bobbins...... The whole online score board thing is pointless for the same reason - people cheat. Why the hell Atari/Eden can't ban anyone or at least delete all the stupid made up times for the races I don't know.

Just out of interest though, how on earth do people always manage to do this to online score boards?? Dirt was the same, most of the lap records were always like 0.01sec or summat???

Hmm u only pick what u want to read.
i said all that but all that are options u dont have available in offline play and i explained all of them.
Do you prefere doing default races all over again or you can do the chalange and try to beat the time that the person who put it up set? Do u have to win the race in order to have fun? I dont.
I dont see why u have problem with servers not so popular anymore as in either case you drive around alone or do those AI boots in offline mode chalange u somehow? They rubbish u can beat class A boot in some class D and and pretty much all A,B,C class cars.

Yes i agree with what u said bout the online score board and thats why i dont bother checking in.

wow, that was quite hard to read.. Punctuation for the win...

sorry, I was being a bit harsh but everything you put across as a good point I only see bad. I really do like the offline mode but to be fair, I'm only 5-10% of the way through so I'm not bored with the offline challenges yet.

Just seems rather daft to me to have an online mode where you can challenge people to unwinnable races, have a pointless online scoreboard and not be able to meet up with your mates for a race.... A mate of mine persuaded me to buy it to race online but after about 45 minutes of trying to set up a match or even be in the same area at the same time on the same server we gave up. Every time I try to select an orange race, no-one is ever online. What's the point......?

In all honesty, I don't think the game is bad at all. It's fun, but for me, it got boring very fast.

I think the online mode needed more capabilities and more online features. I found it hard to cruise around with people and also hard to try and chat with other people.

I got my copy for 15 quid quite a while ago so I guess it'll be even cheaper now.

the OP asked if it was a good online racing game. My opinion is that it isn't (never has been) though I too quite like the offline mode. The cars look and feel nice and I enjoy the delivery missions. I just can't see that the online mode adds anything at all to the experience and is in fact exceptionally flawed, an opinion that is repeated all too often on Atari's forums. There are much better online racers ranging from sims (LFS, rFactor etc) to arcade (Trackmania) and much in between (TOCA) that are far better experiences online than a game that was allegedly designed as an MMO.

wow thanks for all the input guys. now im 50-50 to buy the game or not. i was thinking its like a racing world with lots of players roaming around. the idea of this really attracts me. but as one of the guys stated above, after 6 hours of playing and only 2 guys driving around?? seems like the roads are empty :( to buy or not to buy?

it's a decent racer with nice graphics and reasonable handling, there's loads of cars to choose from and it's quite challenging to work your way up though some of the offline races are admittedly very easy.

However if you're expecting some kind of automobilic World of Warcraft with hundreds of players competing against each other and winning pink slips etc then you'll be disappointed.
