Just want to know how much of an advantage i will get over my GT. As you can see from my sig, it overclocks very well considering it's on standard air cooling. Is it worth the upgrade?

The card is being sold for £140 second hand. Its a WinFast PX8800 GTX TDH.

Will this work in my P5K? Sorry for noob question. It's PCI-E x16 so it will go in the same slot as my GT right?

It's available within the buying and selling section here.

If you're not in the market for anything more expensive than the £140 the GTX is going for then go right ahead. Ignore everyone saying to wait - the new cards are going to be at least twice that much so I doubt you'll be in the market for one of those.

The GTX will work fine in your board but just make sure your case can accomodate it - they're very long (approx 10.5").

Cheers Vertigo, I've withdrawn interest due to the fact i assume LoadsaMoney is right in the sense that i will get very little gain at my current resolution.

Might save a little more and get a 22" and sell my 19". Would love a 24" screen but damm they are expensive.

Trouble is bigger monitor = new expensive card. You will need to get a new card anyway. For 22'' 8800GTX is perfect but having said that wait for the "reasonable" ATI cards because nVidia's top end is going to cost a kidney.

Choosing to go with a larger monitor is definitely the right decision. I went from 19" to 22" and the difference is well worth it.

It's only going to be NV's offering that's gonna be "at least twice that much", so don't ignore those who are trying to help him save money. :o

AT's offerings aren't going be be skyhigh, they should be around the £150-£180 range.

Thanks guys, i think i will hold out as TBH, the performance i get out my 8800GT is pretty good. I only play COD4 anyway :P I think i might just save up and buy a next gen card when the price is right.

Does anyone know how the P5K Premium performs in crossfire mode? Most of the top X2 gurus appear to be using the higher spec asus boards.

Crossfire will of course give some increase over single card, but the second PCI-E slot runs at x4, meaning that card will be bottlenecked.

For crossfire a x38/x48 board is ideal....

but again, I recommend saving for a nice 22'' screen...really helps not just gaming but everything you do on the computer.

If you're considering going for a 4870/4870 Crossfire, I think you would be better off with a motherboard that has dual 16x PCI-E lanes.

P35 Motherboards will have two physical 16x slots but electrically, one runs at 16 and the other runs at 4, so an RV770 based card might bottleneck in crossfire on them.

I've got a P35 motherboard (P5K Deluxe), and I'll be getting a new one soon with dual 16x lanes for crossfired 4870s. I'll be putting my P5K Deluxe into a server/backup computer for LAN when friends come over. :p
