Just to reinforce the stereotype that NASCAR is all about crashes....

I'm not sure, but I think Kevin Lepage (#61) might be a bit....well....****** retarded.

Vid link.

What kind of complete moron thinks "I know, I'm just leaving the pits at Talladega. How about I pull into the path of everybody and start a gigantic pile-up?"

And everyone was okay. Utterly amazing, given the speeds involved.

Oh, and one more. Qualifying crash for the Texas Cup race, so the COT car design.

Linky

That crash is exactly why the COT was brought in. Bigger greenhouse, tougher construction = ability for driver to walk away from an accident that big.

To be fair though that incident completely ruined and stopped the race so what else was the presumably live TV coverage going to talk about? :p

Also if there was a crash that big in F1 they'd be talking about it for weeks.

Please tell me that guy that caused it was banned?

I consider myself one of the small percentage of UK people who actually think there is more to nascar than going round in circles...

Its no Touring car champ or decent singel make single seater championship, but it can be a good watch.

But yes, motorsport is amazingly safe now a days.

Rednecks going around a circular track and having the odd crash. :o Think id have more fun pulling arm hairs out one by one.

So why come into a thread about NASCAR then?

I'm genuinely curious, do you think that somehow by expressing your opinion that NASCAR is solely about "Rednecks going around a circular track and having the odd crash" you will make me sit up and think "hey, Gerard is right. Why am I watching this rubbish? I shall go and re-evaluate my motorsport passions right now"?

And once again - stock cars turn right, as well. Nationwide series goes to Mexico City, Watkins Glen and the Canadian GP track in Montreal. Cup goes to Watkins Glen and Sears Point. But you know all that, since you know what NASCAR is all about, right?

Someone bored with driving in circles and wanting to make things more interesting? :p

At the end of that clip (6:20ish) you see a driver fitting his steering wheel onto it's mounting...look how close the driver is to the steering wheel! Does adopting the "old granny" (tm) driving position help at 200mph?

I think it's something to do with it taking rather a lot of effort to turn the wheel under the loading in the corners, so you can't really do it with your arms stretched right out in front of you. The COT design that the Cup boys race has the wheel a little further out, but not by much.

That was cool. I love a bit of carnage :D

I appreciate nascar in a way however I couldn't follow it, mainly due to no proper coverage.

Considering the thread was obviously being negative towards nascar with the title i thought id have a gawk. Ok with you master? Or do i need permission to post in threads now?

You're right. I should have made it a lot clearer that the thread title was me being sarcastic (given previous comments on this forum by Wicksta et al), the internet fails at doing that job for me.

Doesn't change the fact that you're way off base about NASCAR only being cars going round in left-turning circles though :)

Hey Gerard, spot the ovals:

Now, I'm sure I see some right turns there....

***edit***

Shame that Mexico map is rubbish. Hope NASCAR.com whips up a new one for next season.

They've got radios so i would blame the team for not warning him he had the pack coming up behind him. You've got to remember they don't have mirrors!

The interior mirror can just about see some of the outside, but most of the view is blocked by rollcage and safety equipment.

As for the spotter - the transcript honestly went as follows:

"The whole pack's coming up, they're gonna blow by you so just stay low...watch the blend line, watch the blend line...here comes the pack - aw ****!"

In summary - Lepage is a five star dick.
