The stupidest thing I've ever read

tefel this is the third night in a row I've seen you online at this stupid time :D We're weird and probably lacking vitamin D.

Sorry for going OT!

Wow thats a pretty big insult to the IRA, at least they could perform more than 1 successful attack in a row.

To be fair, AQ have conducted a hell of a lot more than 1 successful attack in a row. I seem to recall that the Bali bombings and Spanish train bombings went down pretty well.

Not to mention the unspecified number of people they've kidnapped and decapitated.

The IRA never had the Balls to pull off something along the lines of 9/11 don't forget, I doubt the IRA are crying over the comparison.

how is it stupid?

Quite.

Where would the Northern Ireland Peace process be without negotiation?

I agree with the police chief, we'll only get an end to this by talking to them. As much as I hate what they stand for I can't see any other way. I've been thinking this for a few years but it's political suicide for anyone to stand up and say it so I doubt it'll happen openly.

Haven't they said though that they don't want to negotiate they only want to destroy the west and all infidels?

Plus i doubt America would give up its bases in the middle east.

The problem is that these guys aren't really open to negotiation.

Their three primary demands are as follows: cessation of all Western support for Israel; withdrawal of all Western troops from Iraq; complete Western military disengagement from the Middle East.

Of these, only withdrawal from Iraq is feasible. The other two are unthinkable.

Cessation of all Western support for Israel would leave her vulnerable to the destruction that her neighbours (and AQ) have been threatening for decades.

Complete Western military disengagement from the Middle East would render the entire region even more unstable than it currently is, and would deny a number of Western-allied ME nations (such as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Egypt) the military support and protection upon which they rely.

No. They have made a number of demands (see my post above) and claim that they will negotiate if these are met.

Exactly.

I notice they don't ask that America stop supporting the Muslim nations though ;)

Sorry mate but I fail to find humour with regard to terrorism.....

Even when it's mocking the terrorists:confused:

Still think I should be going to bed soon, Woke up too late for dinner today and don't have any food here, so am tried, grumpy and in pain :(

Nope, I still miss the point. Not to worry, screw the lot of them..... ;)

Night Night. :)

Explicitly, no. Tacitly, this falls under the umbrella of complete Western military disengagement with the Middle East. If this happened, all Muslim ME nations currently enjoying military support from the West would lose that support.

PIRA said they would never negotiate, the fact is for 20 years there was secret back channel communication taking place between the various Governments and it representatives (British Government Representative (BGR)), Michael Oatley an MI6 officer, a guy from Derry and the PIRA Army Council. Oh and Martin McGuiness was on the Army Council.

PIRA would talk to the guy in Derry, he would then contact Michael Oatley, who inturn would speak to the BGR who then went back the the government and vice versa.

Fact of the matter is we will be talking to Al Qaeda but it will never be admitted almost certainly along the same lines, this happened with the Cuban missile crisis too, a back channel was in place between Kennedy and Khrushchev.
