When did saturday night become about Drinking?

We all head out on a friday / saturday night to go out around town etc. but why do we go out and get smashed??

there arent many that will go out and not drink! why is drinking such a huge part of going out around town??
 
Ive been out the last few weekends, and not had any alcohol.
Going out tonight again and not drinking, its actually more fun watching others getting drunk and making **** of themselves. Plus I dont wake up on a Sunday feeling like poo!

Id probably still do it once in a while, but I dont need a drink to have a good night anymore.
 
Rather like Maddox eating three animals for every one you don't, I propose everyone who does imbibe should have an extra drink for every one you don't. Just to counterbalance the sanctimonious "I don't drink so I'm better" attitude that seems to surface every so often here.

Where did I say I was better than those who do get drunk?
I just meant its a personal choice ive made, plus growing up with an alcoholic father has kind of made me not want to end up like him.
That opinion doesnt make me better or worse than anyone else though. If people want to go out and get drunk thats entirely up to them, its their money after all.

You didn't but the very fact you are questioning if it is about you is indication enough that it isn't - now there's a confusing sentence. The people who I'm directing it to are the ones who come into almost every thread about alcohol and post something along the lines of "it's going to kill you OMGFFS!!! and I've been teetotal for 26 years" - fine, that is great but don't (not you specifically) knock other peoples choices just because they have a different way of enjoying themselves.

Go out, sink a few litres of Dutch courage, then find some poor ******* and batter him to death.

Ah, the quaint old traditions of this sceptred isle!
 
I dont... I go and get wrecked on a Thursday night (local cheap night) and go to the cinemas generally on a Saturday night...

Admitedly I go and get drunk on Friday aswell like...
 
It's to make sunday morning so ****, you enjoy getting up on Monday morning, even though you have work.

Always worked for me when i had to get up for early starts.

This is me, its quite rare that I drink when out anymore, maybe twice a year,
I personally enjoy myself more when not drunk and in a club :)

Because it's fun it feels good and makes you feel so much better for a few days afterwards as well. Something about human nature nearly every tribe and civilisation has used mind altering drugs.

see im the same i will enjoy going out and not drinking to a point!

but going into clubs, dancing etc i just dont do unless i have a certain amount of drink in me :confused:
