Which car to tune...

Old pic...It's been treated to a bit of a makeover...

Theres something seriously wrong with you if you want to mod a skoda octavia. It's a practical car, mainly built for taxi drivers and grandads.

Thats where it ends.

Therefore, 205 gti. Even though it's a bit ott.

Could you explain the effect of this a bit more? :)

It makes it more usable...You are still really close between the gears, allowing you to have more chance of getting the 'best' ratio for any given corner exit when caining it but it gives you the extra legs that makes it actually driveable day to day without having to don ear defenders etc ;).

Don't be silly, the octavia can be tuned fairly cheap with v.good results. There is a big scene for it. 230/240bhp is pretty easily achievable :)

Mmmm.

Why do you think the 205 gti is OTT out of interested?

Thanks mate *adds to notepad*.

Phase 1, check shell for rust. Doesn't seem too bad... I'm guessing this has been worked on before as most of it doesn't seem OEM....

What doesn't look OEM? I've stripped loads of 205's and every one of them has looked like that under the carpet.

Hehe, yeah they did like to dollop on the old seam sealer.

Rust areas to watch on the 205 floor are those corners under the back seats (where yours has some minor corrosion like most 205's)

Pain to fix if it rots through, as it's above the petrol tank so you don't especially want to be welding there without dropping the tank off first.

Yes, the rust on the back right seat is pretty bad, probably going to need to cut out a square and get a mate to weld a piece back on. Best way to do it I'm guessing.

Haven't really done any body repairs, so learning. I've got a friend who's pretty good at welding.

I'm semi tempted to put the battery in the back too to help with weight distribution. I think I must have removed about 30kg+ today. Not quite sure how I would do this yet, but guessing it wouldn't cost that much and might be worth doing. Opinions?

You've put the carpet back in yours haven't you Dolph? Is it pretty loud without anything, I haven't taken it out since I stripped it... The sound deadening weighed a tonne! Was pretty wet though, a few leaks I need to sort out.

Are bucket seats generally a lot lighter?

Doesn't look that bad to me, try grinding it back with a wire wheel on a drill and see how bad the corrosion actually is. It probably isn't anywhere near perforated. Then stabilise the area and paint.

The cable is expensive for what you get, and battery boxes are £20-£30.

I'm not Dolph, and I don't think Dolph has ever owned a 205. I put the carpet back in because you have to for road rally class rules. Plus I don't like bare floors.

Yes, especially fibreglass or carbon ones.

Cool thanks for all the info, not sure why I called you Dolph!!

Going to charge the battery up and take it out tomorrow, see how different it feels (not much i'd expect).

Looked into removing the spare wheel but every thread i've seen about it said it makes the rear waaaay to unpredictable!
