Reggie plates and most expensive in UK

The guy who owns MR51NGH lives around my area, i sometimes see his car parked up on my road, and i think his brother might have 51NGH

He had it on a phantom before, now its on a drophead coupe.

EDIT: After a quick search both numberplates; 51NGH and MR51NGH are on Rolls Royce Phantom Dropheads.

I never got the idea behind custom plates. I mean why?

Whats the concept behind having one? I can see why you'd want different types, black and white ones and whatever but I don't understand why a personal plate?

Don’t you know that its really cool to have your name written on your car? Except you can’t actually write it or have it printed as that’s too easy and doesn’t cost much. You have to have it spelt wrong and with numbers like some sort of “leet speak” on the number plate. Better still, if you own an expensive car, you can get the name of the car, so that people don’t have to know about cars to know you have an expensive one, and they realise you are even more wealthy because you have spent thousands on a number plate.

On a more serious note, aside from the cynical reasons above, I’ve heard its about making a car unique and identifiable to you by other people. The different types you mention is difficult to do as there are fairly strict rules regarding what size, colour and font you are allowed.

so therefore it is a very small minority and yet they have 2 of the most expensive plates in the UK - i just thought that was a very high achievement

Why is it an achievement that people of your religion think it's wise to spend lots of money on number plates?

EDIT
Nobody except a Sikh is going to buy a number plate that says "SINGH", so you're all just bidding against each other - that can be the only thing driving up the price.

The thing is the plate will hold its value far more than the car it's stuck to.

Do you see Kings high up in the rankings?

There arent many of us, what 0.000000001%? but what a testamant to how far we have come. I find this quite impressive. I am proud to be part of this successful 'select' few people in the world.

HRH TBH

Note to Psycho Sonny - You cant compare Sikhs being a Minority in the whole world with just plates in the UK. You said the whole world. The whole world includes UAE and HK. Hence not that much of a spend no?

Only Sikh people have the name SINGH? Do muslims, hindus, or any asian religion not use the name aswell?

Surely Singh isn't uniquly used by JUST Sikhs.

I think i'm going to buy a personal plate when I get some money in!

Yes. Being the middle name of all Sikh males, it's also used by some Hindus as well, eg golfer Vijay Singh. He's earned over $54m through golf so could probably afford the plate!

Singh is the name given to all Sikh males

every single sikh male has the middle name Singh

every single sikh female has the name Kaur

but their is a caste system in india, and lower castes disgarded their surnames and just used Singh and Kaur instead

whereas the high castes kept their surnames

i can tell what caste a sikh person is from their surname, they may dispute the fact but surnames are related to castes, no matter what they say they are, you can tell what caste they are from their surname

it is unique to sikhs, but it has been said the golfer vijay singh uses it as his surname, singh means Lion in punjabi, he was most likely from a lower caste who disregarded their surname and used Singh instead, that family then married a hindhu family and adopted that religion yet for some reason continue to use a sikh name

the same thing can be said about

FRED 1

only people fred would be buying it so its pushing up the price in a bidding war

BEN 1

etc

but the fact remains they have 2 of the most expensive plates in the UK, yet are extremely small minority
