Where you you back up your photos?

I currently take a backup of all of my photos (the one thing you couldn't replace if your hard drive died/was stolen/destroyed etc.) to an external drive, but that's often next to the PC- hence not exactly a good backup.

Where do you backup yours? Does anyone use online storage of some description? I was thinking of somewhere that would allow me to save up my pictures at original quality but so I could view them over the web at reduced quality if I wanted to show them to someone, but at the same time not be 'publicly' available. What would you recommend?

Mine are on both my desktop and laptop, as well as my external hard drive. Most of them are also on my website.

Copy on my main PC that then gets synced with my Home Server (which is replicated across multiple disks), and then once a month (approx) I take a copy into work on an external drive.

I use JungleDisk to automatically back up folders that I care about to Amazon S3.

I don't rate external drives for back ups the way they're typically used. It's not a proper backup if it's sitting right next to the PC.

Everything is on my home server with dual 1TB drives set to extend and mirror the contents of one onto the other in Windows Home Server. This then backs up using Acronis Echo to an external USB hard drive fortnightly. I had considered JungleDisk but uploading my stuff on my measly 2Mb connection would take until the end of days.

The originals sit on a RAID5 array in the PC. Anything which is not on DVD yet is sync'd with an external HDD. Once I have a DVD's worth of a particular subject I burn 2 copies, one stays here and the other goes to my parent's place.

i use a Thecus Y.E.S. Nano N1050 and a 250gb lappy hdd to backup all my photo's. It's handy cos it runs of a battery pack as well as usb and you can backup photo's off a camera directly to it without using a PC if you needed to. Plus i've always got it with me for my job so if my PC gets stolen, ive still got this.

Having said that I think it'd be handy having some webspace to back them upto as well. If you have a g-mail account you can turn that into free storage can't you?

important = print them, less important burn them onto disk and check once a year. all the current and newer photos get stored on slave hdd and external hdd for 6-12months and then choose the important ones for print and less imporant gets burned on disk.

I have everything important (around 50Gb) backed up to an external USB drive, and also to Mozy (http://mozy.com/ - unlimited storage for $4.95 per month - an absolute bargain!)

That's my problem also, would love to backup online but trying to sync 30Gb of photos just isn't going to happen.

Does it really matter if it takes even a week or so to upload them to start with - it will only be fairly small incremental backups after that?
