Top 5 Footballers of Your Lifetime

Just seemed to be a bit of an irrelevant comment lol :p

I just wondered if you mistook me for someone earlier in the thread talking about him.

The only bad thing on Maldini is that he didn't win anything at the top level, i.e. World Cups.
Lack of team achievements doesnt make him any less of a player.
Theres been plenty of world class players over the years who have won nack all.

Matt Le Tissier

The sad thing about MLT is, there's probably a lot of players outside England, or youngsters who will never know just how good he was. Personally I can't have him in my top5 because he never really got much of a chance to show what he could do in Europe / Internationals, and he is a bit of a luxury player who doesn't give as much of an allround contribution as say, Zidane.

About a year ago I was watching this CL review night program on Sky, and they had Souness in the studio. They were talking about Totti, and the discussion moved on to other 'enigma' type players who stayed at one club for a long time. Anyway, Souness actually said that MLT was the most talented player he's ever worked with - and he's worked with some top players like Dalglish, Rush, Shearer etc.

For me MLT is just one of those players that makes football enjoyable to watch, great with both feet, incredibly inventive and scorer of plenty of 'unique' goals. Also would have come in handy for those troublesome penalty shootouts, as I believe he scored 36 out of 37(?) in his career.

48 out of 49 I think, which is incredible.

I was actually considering putting Le Tissier in my top 5 players actually, he was a pleasure to watch and some of the things he could do with a football were sublime. While probably not one of the best players of my lifetime he was definately one of my favourites.

He was going to be in my list too, he just never proved himself at the highest level.

This is a tricky one and as per normal, I can name five now, but will probably realise that I've made a mistake and could change a couple in a few days.

My list is:

Beckenbauer
Maradona
Cruyff
Maldini
Zoff

You can't agree that he was England's best player at the last 2 major tournaments?

I can't, In 2002 Sol Campbell was excellent and was the main reason our defence was so good that year. Joe Cole was our best player in the last WC, I don't even remember Ferdinand being in contention.

Joe Cole scored 1 good goal.

Our best 2 at the last World Cup were undoubtedly Owen Hargreaves and Rio Ferdinand, they were the only two not publicly berated. In 2002 Ferdinand was far superior to Campbell.

I actually think big Sol was slightly better than Rio at the World Cup 2002, although both he and Rio were excellent hence both getting in to the team of the tournament.

Even if you think Rio was better, saying he was 'far superior' is ridiculous, although I'm not surprised. The majority of your posts seem to be you claiming random Man U players are much better than than everyone else at everything.
