Good Set of Spanners Required

Snap-on, LOOOOOL!

They have nice features, like one end is rotated -20*, and 20* (when reversed) from the shaft, and the other end is 0* to the shaft. Means you can manage, even if you only have room to move the spanner through 1/3 of the way to the next face of the nut, albeit slowly.

Sorry, I spent a lot of last night on a running machine and was slightly delirious as a result ;). I went waffling on about the Uber Halfords socket sets. Not a great selection of spanners but you can just about fit ratchet ones in place of the ones provided. The Halfords Pro sets are perfectly good.

Can you hammer them onto a rounded nut the next size larger?

i've got the halfords professional socket set cant remember how much £70 maybe and its been ideal i always have the correct socket, and there are several extension bars for those hard to reach places. As for spanners i found an Esso garage selling off their draper stuff for cheap so i got a 24pcs spanner set for a £10 they have been fine.

Ive got most of the Halfords pro range.

Only thing that seems to break are the extension tubes which use a pin rather than just a ball with spring type. The pins dont take very well sometimes and can stick. Broke mine and had no problems swapping it for the none pin type.

Cant say ive had a problem with the heads on the normal spanners being too large as that review says that Matt82 posted. But the plastic holder thing is a bit naff really.

The ratchet spanners are pretty good, might get some flexi head ones but havnt needed them as yet.

I have a set of Teng torque wrenches (1/2" and 3/8") really nice "click" when you reach the preset torque, even at the lower end of the scales, some cheaper ones can be a bit vague here.

Very happy with all my Halfords Pro stuff, got everything from the 150pc socket set to screwdrivers and 3/8 torque wrench.

Also been pleased with my Draper 1/2 Torque wrench, very well made indeed.

As said from the first reply onwards, Halfords Professional Spanners/Sockets are more than adequate for any home ( and probably commercial use ).

I picked up my high lift trolley jack from halfords for a good price and aside from weighing as much as the car, its great. As is my halfords pressure washer which I picked up for £15.

Snap-on and Mac tools sell great tools at a stupid price point. Most professionals don't need this type of gear. Snap-on and Mac tools, are the Sony Vaio of the tools industry.

If you can get past the stigma associated with Halfords' usual clientele and their ripspeed sub-brand, you'll find out that they sell a lot of very good stuff at fairly decent prices.

Whilst we're having a random "Halfords Tools" thread, I noticed the other day that my local had a special offer on their professional tool chests. Think it was something like buy the bottom box for £250 and get the top box free.

I've got the same chests and they're pretty good.

Are these different to the rebranded red Clarke ones that they do there? I haven't paid attention to them when in there but noticed straight away that they were identical to my Clarke ones and a lot more expensive for some reason.

These are the red ones with the black drawers, the nice ones with ball bearing sliders. Not sure if clarke do similar ones to those.
